<GM> Session 3: The Universe is trying to Kill You
<GM> When the morning arrives, it's merely a change in the sky color, from dark gray to light grey. Nonetheless, you feel rested, if somewhat weary of this dismal place.
<GM> The inn was in extreme disrepair, but at least nobody bothered you while you slept,.
<GM> Sim's flesh is back to normal; the effects of the experimental potion wore off while you slept.
* Karu awakens, feeling weary and still in pain...but at least clear-headed. He spent a few minutes in bed, concentrating, before finally getting up...
<Rock-Man> Impulse stares at the others from where he is sitting, just observing. "Are you all well rested now?" he asks of the others.
* Alis nods. "Good keeping watch, Impulse."
<Karu> "As much as I can be, anyway." Karu nods as he gets up...
<Sim> The half-elf streches in her bedroll, glancing over to Impulse at the question.  "As well as can be, in this place," she murmurs, stretching again.
<Alis> "We might as well start making our way back now.  I could go without another night in this place."
* Karu gathers his equipment. "Likewise. Our transport should be here or on the way as we speak."
<Alis> "Any sightings of them yet, Impulse?"
* Alis moved to the window, taking a glance outside.
<GM> Outside the window you see nothing much. In the distance, perhaps the crackle of a living spell, but within the town, all is quiet and dead.
* Sim slowly climbs from the bedroll and begins to furl it up, grumbling to herself.
<Rock-Man> Impulse shakes his head. "I have not seen anything yet, but he should be waiting, if he is on time."
* Alis nods. "Let's get walking then."
* Alis leads downstairs, making his way toward the town outskirts and where the boat ought be.
<Karu> "Let's." the Kalashtar states as he heads downstairs, following
<GM> As you approach the edge of the town, where that sign was, you see something painted on the other side of it
* Alis looks at what's painted on the other side.
* Karu casually looks at the painting as well
* Sim pulls her pack over her shoulder before following the others downstairs, rubbing her eyes.
<GM> It's written in Draconic, and appears to be a quote of some kind.
<GM> "Facilis decensus Dolurrh, sed revocare gradum superasque evadere ad auras, hoc opus, hic labor est!"
<Karu> "Easy is the descent to Dolurrh...but to retrace thy step and return to the upper air, there is the toil and the task."
<Karu> "Something tells me we aren't getting out so easily."
<Sim> "Nothing ever is," she says, sighing heavily.
<GM> Sim, you recognize the quote. It's from a recent popular opera.
<GM> OOC: actually, strike recent. It predates the Mourning, but just got popular recently.
<Alis> "Odd of you to be worried by superstition.  We've got a package to get back and should keep going."  Alis moved on, pragmatically.
<Rock-Man> Impulse nods his agreement. "Unless it can lead to another cache of eternal wands or something our employer or we ourselves can use, I do not see any reason to concern ourselves with the statement."
--> Penuche (~penuche@c-98-196-68-69.hsd1.tx.comcast.net) has joined #acquisitives
<GM> About fifty feet past the sign, well before the mists start to thicken, there's something weird going on with the ground. It looks perfectly level, but actually moving forward is more difficult than it should be, as if it were a steep slope.
<GM> And if you head back towards the town, it feels like moving downhill.
<Alis> "A spell?" Alis wondered, glancing around.
<Rock-Man> "Is it all around the town as well? We might seek to exit through the other end of the town and then double back," Impulse offers as he tries to figure out what's going on.

<Penuche> Rock-Man invokes Penuche's magic: < 29 > [d20=9]
* Alis gazes back trying to see if it was surrounding the town..  "We might miss our boat either way."
<GM> Rock-Man: this is presumably caused by magic, but then, so is the mournland, according to most popular theories. in any event, you think this effect is caused by the land itself, not by some spell, and it's anyone's guess if going another way would be easier.
<Karu> "That would be problematic, to say the least."
<Alis> "It's probably going to be an hour or more to try and walk around.  Possibly a half day to take the long way.  Let's carry on.  If the dead rise, we'll simply bury them again."
* Alis walks on, unconcerned.
<Karu> "Right, then."
<Rock-Man> "It does not appear to be an effect cast by someone in particular, at least. That might make things more difficult as well, though, as it means there's nobody to beat into submission to fix things," Impulse points out. "Still, the boatman did say he would not be waiting for long, so..."
<Sim> "Delightful.  Now we may meet the living dead."  Sim shakes her head slightly.
<GM> You're halfway to the denser mists that mark the edge of the Mournland when parts of the mist detach themselves and start flying towards you.
<GM> If you keep moving, they'll be upon you in about five rounds; eight if you stop where you are.
* Alis slips his daggers casually into his hands, "What are those things."

<Karu> OOC, scratch that
<Karu> :
<GM> Rock-Man: it occurs to you that these look like what you've heard of Mourners, undead known only to appear in the Mournland itself. Individually weak, but they like to attack in groups. And despite seeming insubstantial puffs of cloud, they are very corporeal and can hurt with both claws and magic.
<Karu> "Right.  They appear to be made of mist.  There might be something I can try to do..."  With that, Karu stops.
<Rock-Man> "No, stop, they're not incorporeal. They're undead, be careful, and watch out for their claws and any magic," the warforged warns as he quickly begins to cast an infusion on his weapon.
<Karu> "...right then.  Despite appearing to be part of the air?"
<Rock-Man> "Think of them as condensed air if you must," he replies as the infusion is made.
<Rock-Man> ooc: bane - undead
<Karu> "Setting Ectoplasmic Matrices" Karu starts as he focuses.  "Type 1: FS-D set, standard power.  Types 2 and 3: FS-O set, standard power.  Type 3: Screen formation, standard power."
<Karu> OOC: 4
<Alis> "Alright, then, let's cut through, Sim wands?"
* Karu then draws his falchion, ready to cut through mist-undead...things
<Rock-Man> "Those who have unenhanced weapons....Hand them to me quickly, I can make them more effective against these creatures," Impulse quickly suggests.
<Karu> As he finished focusing, a loud 'chime' rang through the air, as several transparent purple 'shards' surrounded him, floating in mid-air...
* Sim reaches back to pull a wand from her bag, levelling it at the oncoming mist-thangs. Foom. "Show off," she murmurs to Karu
* Alis tries to gt a count on the number, holding out his daggers to Impulse.
* Rock-Man quickly begins channeling power into both daggers.

<GM> Rock-Man: how many is 'some'?
<Rock-Man> ooc: moving 10 feet forward, readying action to attack once they're in reach.
* Karu stops to concentrate, eyes focused on the rightmost four of the mourners as they continued to approach. "Setting Ectoplasmic Matrix. Spread pattern, type F, maximum power. Engaging."
<Karu> For a split second, a loud roar ripped through the battlefield as a massive wave of fire shot toward the mourners.

<GM> (edit: both mourners)
<Alis> "Two behind me Impulse," He said simply as he cleared the route.
<Alis> OOC: Just one.
<GM> oh, ok
<Alis> OOC: It's two hits against one target.
<GM> Impulse's turn, then. There's one more mourner, and the two of you can flank it, but of course it's undead.

<GM> The last mourner follows its fellows and collapses into dust.
--- GM has changed the topic to: Acquisitives: Welcome to Ackbar's Discount Armor. "Impose Halfling" shield now 75% off! | Karu is the ghostreaver.
* Karu shakes his head as he sheathes his falchion. "Tch. Undead. Let's get going, everyone."
<GM> Nothing more eventful happens, though Sim almost gets lost in the fog. But you make it to the other side, where the boatman is waiting.
<Rock-Man> "Ah, good, you waited for us," Impulse notes as he gets the boatman's attention.
<GM> "It was a near thing!" he exclaims. "I heard the most awful wails coming from the fog."
<Karu> "Thanks for waiting." Karu addresses the boatman.  "We were waylaid a bit.  By ghosts, of a sort."
* Alis smirks quietly and walks onto the boat, sitting down at a comfortable spot.
<GM> "Ghosts, you say? You meet all kinds of things in that accursed land, I guess."
* Karu walks onto the boat as well, keeping an eye on Alis.
* Sim follows the others from the fog, paling faintly at the sight of the boat, but she keeps her peace.
<GM> The boatman poles you back across the water.
<Karu> "They burned well enough."
<GM> "Ah, the flame burns all unrighteousness, that it does, that it does."
<Alis> "Flame takes any, really it doesn't quite care a whit to the contents of your heart."
<GM> Soon enough you arrive back at the city's docks.
* Karu sits back. "She speaks truth. Being unable to control power is just as dangerous as not having it to begin with. With something as destructive as fire..."
<Karu> ooc: he
* Sim doesn't wait before getting off of the boat eagerly, clearly continuing to dislike any amount of riding on the rocking boat.
* Rock-Man also quickly parts from the ship once they're by the docks.
* Karu stands and steps out of the boat, having enjoyed the ride once again, go figure.
<GM> Well, you've got the wands and are back in civilization, along with five very unique potions.
<GM> Now you just have to get them across half the continent!
<Karu> Don't we have that...rail thingy?  Thunder rail or whatnot?  (And we have extradimensional storage, so...yeah)
<GM> let's take that to the OOC channel
<Karu> ooc: oops
<GM> ~~~~~~End session~~~~~~~~
<GM> 900 XP, 720 GP each
<GM> okay, we'll say that you rest in the city while Sim recovers, and then decide where to go from there
<Karu> Sounds good to me
<GM> (Alis, please try not to kill townsfolk while you're in Thrane; it's basically a lawful-good theocracy)
<Karu> (Don't worry.  We probably have a policy on not letting him go out in public alone by now.  XD)
