<Kotono> Another week passes. You're about 3/4ths of the way Hillmar. Lucy's internal damage has fully recovered, leaving her in tip-top health. Meanwhile, Jetina's still recovering. She's put a bit of meat on her bones, only looking like near death instead of death. She's been sleeping a lot now, the days slipping away from her. The lunch hour is unremarkable - the same rations and foods as the past
<Kotono> week. Everyone's in there save Kamhoff and Jetina. It's then that Kamhoff pokes his head into the galley, "Look lively, all of you! Upper decks now, we have a fucking unexpected island!"
<Lucy> "Oh, how wonderful!" Lucy exclaims. "A chance to run a test on land rather than in a cabin!"
* Veren approaches the railing of the ship, inspecting the island as they approaching.
<Pepo> 'You mean an island that isn't normally there?' Pepo asks, sticking close to Kamhoff as he heads up.
* Lucy disappears with a dramatic flick of her hair, heading to her cabin for a quick recharge of the rod of wonders!
<Moore> Moore will fly out to check it out!
<Kotono> "Exactly," Kamhoff says as the party, sans Lucy, heads up. Ahead you see an island - rather large. It looks circular, at least from the front. It's a ring of beach surrounded by some light forest with a sharply tall mountain in the center. You can see birds flying just above the canopy level of the forest, while a shining white fog conceals the peak of the mountain. OOC: 6 con damage Lucy, +1
<Kotono> charge to the rod of wonders. Note the +1 charge in loot.
<Veren > "Do you wish to make landfall? We could spend a day looking for supplies before moving on."
<Lucy> Humming to herself, Lucy casts Detect Magic in preparation as she rejoins the others and peers at the sands ahead.
<Kotono> "Hell yes I do," Old Kamhoff points, "A new island? There could be all sorts of things in there!" He points ahead, "Bolethon, pull us close enough to disembark!" There's no magic from the island, but then again, you're still not quite there yet and detect magic only has so much of a radius.
<Pepo> Pepo decides to see if the island is worthwhile at all as they approach, focusing on the psychic energies that permeate all around in order to answer the question, 'What is the greatest treasure of this new island?' OOC: Psionic Divination
* Lucy maintains it until they make landfall, since it's really better than just standing there looking pretty.
* Veren eyes the island, evaluating what kind of cover there is to provide cover for stealth.
<Kotono> OOC: Link me, Pepo?
<Kotono> OOC: Perception, Veren.
<Pepo> OOC: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/divination.htm
<Veren > roll 1d20+12 Perception
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=10]
<Kotono> No joy - Pepo knows that the attempt failed. Meanwhile, as you get close enough for Old Kamhoff to extend the gangplank on down to the beach, Lucy can see that nothing on the immediate front of the island radiates magic. Meanwhile again, Veren doesn't see anything remarkable. Just birds and that sort of thing above the forest.
<Lucy> Her magical aides left behind in the cabin, Lucy prepares to disembark and find a nice, quiet spot of beach to conduct her experiment with the rod!
<Pepo> Well, something aside from wood to sink his paws into is good enough, and Pepo pads down the gangway and onto the sand.
* Veren moves down the plank and heads towards the tree line.
<Kotono> The sand's warm under your feet. It's pleasant here as Pepo and Veren disembark. Old Kamhoff stays just by the gangplank, kneeling and studying the sand. "One of you grab me a few wood samples from the forest, would you?" he calls. OOC: Lucy, #evildunes.
<Moore> Moore will fly down with the rest of the group for now and take a look around. "Sure thing!"
<Kotono> The three head towards the forest. It's dimmer here - looks like there's enough cover to do without veils, if you go in a bit. It looks like a fairly typical forest on first glance. It's all old hardwoods, no sign of pine trees or anything like that.
<Pepo> Pepo likewise goes towards the tree line, hoping to smell something small and tasty to eat. The rats are only just starting to increase their numbers (or make even considering he's been eating them off and on) and the fish are nearly gone, so hopefully he'll get something nice here.
* Veren moves with the group, keeping an eye out for anything interesting or dangerous.
<Kotono> Oh, he can smell all sorts of small animals. Squirrels, mice, rats and other tasty things. Birds too, if he wants to tangle with them.
<Kotono> OOC: Perception, Veren.
<Veren > roll 1d20+12 Perception
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 22 > 12 [d20=10]
<Moore> Moore looks around for any trees that seem out of place in a forest like this.
<Pepo> He could go for bird. 'I will remain close,' he tells Moore and Veren before doing his best to become unseen, prowling through the undergrowth in search of some unwary fowl.
<Pepo> roll 1d20+33 stealth
<Serith> Pepo roll for Serith < 50 > 12 [d20=17]
<Kotono> OOC: #terror, Pepo.
<Kotono> Veren and Moore explore around. They don't see anything awry and soon come to a pond. It seems to be the endpoint for a little brook. The waters are clear, showing the bottom, which is full of yellow-gold colored stones.
* Veren reaches for one of the stones to give to Kamhoff.
<Kotono> Veren reaches up and takes one of the stones. It's sort of heavy-eh? Once it's out of the water, it feels much heavier. Veren's entire body feels heavy, dull, tired.
* Veren drops it on the ground with a grunt.
<Veren > "Kamhoff, there's something strange with these stones. I felt... heavy and tired."
<Moore> Moore flies over to cast a Detect Magic on them!
<Kotono> As Kamhoff's back by the ship, he doesn't hear Veren.
<Kotono> The stones radiate faint magic. OOC: Spellcraft. Also, if you have any skills related to geology, roll 'em too.
* Veren moves to slip one of the stones into his pack.
<Moore> roll 1d20+12
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 21 > 12 [d20=9]
<Moore> roll 1d20+4 K:Geology OOC: Using Bardic Knack / Jack of All Trades for it if I can
<Serith> Moore roll for Serith < 19 > 12 [d20=15]
<Kotono> There's a curse on the stones. A curse of greed, bloodstained. The magic here is old, very old. Moore can tell that the stones are likely gold nuggets. Off chance they're fool's gold, but they don't have the right luster for it.
<Kotono> The stone goes into Veren's pack. He still feels tired and heavy.
* Veren moves to return to the ship.
<Moore> "The stones are cursed with a curse of greed." Moore calls out to Veren. "Something involving blood, too."
<Veren > "I'll let Kamhoff know. I've touched it already, maybe there's something he can do."
<Moore> Moore rubs his chin for a moment. "Our newfound friend might be able to help us with the curse." He says with a nod.
<Kotono> OOC: Heading back, then?
<Veren > OOC: I am.
<Moore> OOC: Sure.
<Kotono> Thus the two return. But on stepping onto the sands once more, just out of the forest? You notice Kamhoff's heading over down the beach, towards Lucy. She's a few hundred feet down, doing something or another. Meanwhile, Veren's foot slips into the sand like it's thick mud, sinking right in. OOC: Reflex save, Veren.
<Veren > roll 1d20+14 Ref
<Serith> Veren roll for Serith < 33 > 12 [d20=19]
> OOC: Evasion, if it matters.
<Kotono> OOC: Quick question: Are you wearing magical shoes or boots or anything like that?
* C2 (~DarkFlame@bzq-79-183-105-246.red.bezeqint.net) has joined #dunes
<Veren > OOC: Not unless you count that they're part of the Vestments of Many Styles.
<Kotono> OOC: So not, okay, not a big deal.\
<Kotono> Sheer desperation is enough to propel Veren. He stumbles back and into the solid ground of the forest. He loses his boot, the magical conjurading fading as it sinks into the sands. His magic vestment takes care of it, a new copy appearing on his foot right after.
* Veren blinks for a moment, but moves down the tree line closer to Lucy and Kamhoff.
<Moore> Moore looks at the ground with an eye for magic to see if it's related to the curse of the golden stones!
<Veren > "Kamhoff! I've found something! Something... Unfortunate."
<Kotono> Seems to be - same sort of magic. Meanwhile...OOC: Okay, just a sec in here.
<Kotono> OOC: Lemme move you two into #evil, actually.
<Kotono> A few hours pass. Soon everyone but Pepo's in front of the ship. Kamhoff and Lucy are fiddling with some samples while Moore and Veren are seeing to a couple of deer they caught. Skinning, preserving and basically dealing with the meat. It's at this point that Jetina slowly emerges, walking carefully down the gangplank. "Where are we?" she calls.
<Veren > "Random island. Food, water. Blood curses."
<Kotono> "Oh, stocking up on food did you say blood curses?" she turns to Veren, stepping carefully onto the sands. She squints and holds a hand up to her face, veil in place. "
<Kotono> OOC: Gah.
<Kotono> "Oh, stocking up on food did you say blood curses?" she turns to Veren, stepping carefully onto the sands. She squints and holds a hand up to her face, veil in place. "I didn't remember an island this way."
<Lucy> "It does not appear to be on the maps, and the locals communicate by singing despite having no necks to connect their heads to their bodies," Lucy elaborates. "It might be part of the magical defenses of the curse upon the golden treasure in a pond here."
<Veren > "Yes. Blood curse. Yellow-gold stones in a pool of water."
<Kotono> "Right." Jetina smiles and turns right back around, "I'm not up for anything dangerous yet," she says, ":I'll see you all back on board, bye!"
* Lucy waves.
* Veren nods and continues working on the deer.
<Kotono> From there Pepo returns with more chickens: These ones alive, following his commands. OOC: Go ahead, Pepo.
<Pepo> With a trio of chickens clucking and trailing after him like a mother hen, Pepo stops and broadcasts, 'I think I found the thief's home. If you are interested in seeing it let me know, I thought it was dull though.' And then he leads the chickens aboard, finding an enclosed space to pen them before dismissing the attraction effect. 'Finding some chickenfeed may be useful if anyone desires eggs,'
<Pepo> he adds as he finishes that business.
<Lucy> "I could take a trip there. Did you check for any interesting magic?"
<Pepo> 'I did not,' Pepo affirms. 'This way,' he says, leading the way back into the island's interior.
* Lucy is all too happy to follow!
<Moore> Moore will follow along as well!
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.
