It's not really like swimming. You've been in lava and it's not the same. It's closer to rock that's hot enough to move, like a boiling hot clay. You make slow progress but you make progress, needing about a minute to reach the other end. Below is more of the chasm, stretching down further than you can see. However...

You can notice on the far walls - now closer, the chasm now about 100ft in radius or so - are strange spider-like creatures of magma. They spin burning webs with several lumps wrapped up on them.

Unlikely to be a significant threat. Reversing her course Afina flies back up into the magma and pushes herself through the rest of the way to regroup with her friends.

[Anastasia]

You return up a little slower, just because flying up through something is harder than going down through it.

"Well?" Simmer asks, "Any chance there's heaps of treasure waiting for us?"

Gold snorts, smoke coming out of his nostrils.

[Ebiris]

"Nothing so exciting," Afina replies. "The magma's about a thousand feet thick, it took me a minute to pass through, probably triple that for everyone else?" She's not quite sure of what speeds others can reach through such difficult terrain. "The chasm narrows in quite a lot and there's those magma-spiders lining the walls, so try to stick towards the centre. Can everyone manage that?"

[Anastasia]

Nods all around. "Yes," Gold says, "I can swim."

Arrel looks down, "I'll manage."

[Ebiris]

"Alright, Simmer you stay close to Gold and I'll stay close to Arrel, just in case anything happens?" Afina suggests, giving the two dragons a chance to catch their breath before she refreshes her haste spell on everyone and descends once more!

Haste is enough to eliminate the need for rolls, due to the added speed.

It's a short trip for you. The others follow a minute or so later, taking deep breaths of air once out. Arrel looks up, "The magma floats there? Strange."

"Doesn't even dip towards the centre," Afina agrees with the oddity. "It must be a deliberate choice, creating layers and varying up the obstacles for a purpose rather than simply allowing things to form naturally. Now remember to stay away from the walls," she says as they begin to float down again, keeping an eye out for any overly ambitious arachnids.

Afina can spot the spiders watching all of you, arachnid eyes following the four of you are you go down. Not turning away, unblinking.
