[Footnotes]
Body - Significantly Above Human Average (Adult) - Rei has
lived the majority of her life under the tutelage of her
grandfather, who was quite the martial artist in his day and
is still a handful. Constant physical and spiritual training
has left her body in tip-top shape.

Mind - Human Average (Adult) - Stressing the importance of
her miko duties, Rei hasn't felt motivated enough to learn
too many other studies in depth. She feels it better to excel
in her predetermined path.


Soul - Extremely Capable - In her studies with her grandfather
Rei showed early on a uniquely strong will power. He chose to
focus on the spiritual aspect of her training, creating a
spiritually strong and willful young woman.

Unique Defect - Social Outcast - The Hikawa Shrine has a
reputation in the area as a place for unusual happenings dating
back to its construction in a bygone era. The miko it produces
are said to be powerful, and Rei's abilities are spoken of
with mixed awe and fear. Having gained a reputation as 'that
creepy Hino girl' most people stay away unkess they have business
with the shrine.It doesn't help that when strange misfortune happens
the shrine is usually shoulders the blame. The social isolation,
mixed with her own strong pride, has led to her haughty
disposition toward others.

Appearance - Mysterious and attractive, Rei has her share of admirers.
None are willing to aproach her, both because of the wall of rumors
surrounding the raven haired miko and her own haughty demeanor.

Divine Relationship - Being the miko at such a spiritual shrine
has perks, not the least of which is the protection of the local kami.

Supernatural Training - Rei has been training as a miko since before her mother's death. After her death, Grandpa Hino took in his daughter's
only child, her father not knowing what to do with her. He also took over
her miko training, leading Rei down the same path her mother and her
ancestor's through her her mother's line had taken.

This training has led to some unique abilities.

Fire Reading - Rei can sometimes interpret the temple flames to provide
guidance or answer a specific question.

Ofuda - Rei has the ability to create Ofuda, or anti-evil scrolls, that
can be used to place wards around buildings or to vanquish evil spirits.
When an ofuda is thrown at a dark servent, it sticks to them like glue,
and either disorients the creature or exorcises it from the host vessel
(human body or inanimate object).

Sixth sense - Rei often knows when evil is nearby, giving her initiative
in combat and making it very difficult to surprise her. Rei's ESP can also
locate lost items.

[Description]

Rei is 13 years old at the start of the game, and stands taller than Usagi, Minako, and Ami, but still nowhere near as tall as Makoto. Likewise, she's developed about the same, relatively speaking. She has long flowing dark red-to-black hair which reached past her waist. Her eyes have been described as either purple or redish depending on the lighting.She has a trim physique, very attractive, that hints at beauty to come. Surprisingly, she sresses the most showy, prefering dresses that show off her legs and shoulders. This has the added effect of making her appear more mature than she actually is.

[Family]
Hino Kayôbi - Mother(deceased) - Kayôbi was the daughter of Hino Ichiro and his wife, Hino Reiko. She and her younger sister, Yayoi, both trained spiritually under their parents, their mother being the heir of the shrine and their father being born from another family of spiritualists in the Tokyo area. As the eldest Kayôbi stayed to inherit the shrine while Yayoi married through arrangement into another family. The sisters remained close, even though they seldom saw each other. While attending university Kayôbi met and fell in love with a fellow student, one Hibiki Kanaye. They eventually married, much to the quiet disapproval of Kanaye's politically inclined family. Her husband took the Hino name. Eventually they has a single daughter, but complications from the birth left Kayôbi with a week constitution. Even so, she trained Rei as best she could until her illness finally overcame her. She never blamed her husband, however.

Grandpa Hino is always quick to point out the similarities in his daughter and granddaughter, especially when it comes to their temperament.

Hino Kanaye - Father - The dietman married into the Hino household, taking their name as his own. However, his wife's fading health drove him to seek solace in his work, inadvertently estranging him from his daughter in the process. Rei cannot stand to be around her father any longer than necessary. She recalls the sad look her mother always wore as she faded away, and that her father wasn't there at the end, forcing her mother to face death alone.

Hino Ichiro - Grandfather - Grandpa Hino is a jovial seeming old man with a surprising range of skills and knowledge at his diposal. Martial Artist, spiritualist, caretaker, dirty old man; many are the hats this clever old fox wears.

Saotome Yayoi - Aunt (Kayôbi's sister) - Hino Yayoi is the oft times ditzy, sometimes insightful younger sister of Kayôbi. She's kept an eye out for Rei since before her sister's death. When Rei needs someone to listen to her, Yayoi has always been there for her, even if she reminds Rei far too much of her grandfather.

[Others]
Phobos and Deimos - Two birds that hang around the shrine. Rei finds in them kindred spirits.

Kaido-san - Dietman Hino's successor and Rei's first love. He was always there for her after her mother died, like an older brother. She soon fell in love with him, only to find out he was to wed to someone else. Her heart broken, she swore never to fall in love again.

Hasukawa Nasu - The 16 year old president of the student council, and one of only two friends Rei has at T*A*. She's really well liked and quite handsome, though her interest in Rei seem to be more geared toward friendship than any romance, much to Rei's relief. She also has the annoying habit of trying to get her to join the Supernatural Club, run by a certain female friend of hers. . .

Saito Satoru - AKA "Fifty Yen Saito" - Local smooth operator and general playboy from a nearby all boys school. At one point he'd tried his luck at Rei, but with little success. A friendship did come out of it, though, so Satoru is the only male friend Rei currently has. Called 'Fifty Yen' because of his habit of rolling a fifty yen piece across his knuckles. He also knows a number of other slight of hand tricks.

Takeda Yumi - Age 14, Yumi is big into photography and journalism. She's determined to solve the 'Seven Mysteries of Juuban' before she leaves high school.
