That's really not many.  I closed a fair bit to make it less cluttered.  But also I have ADD.  It's sort of expected that I'm distracted.  Heck, I'm doing 'that' on two machines at the moment.

The one on the top (my left screen) is where I keep mIRC up pretty much all the time, and the one on the bottom (the right screen) is where I do everything else. I rarely ever see either desktop image, though - too much stuff open all the time.

Anyhoo, I can relate to that feeling. I hate having icons covering up parts of my wallpaper. I basically create a "My shortcuts" folder, and put most of anything I'm likely to click regularly there.

I do keep a small amount of other icons as can be seen on my desktop, but I try to keep them in some spot where they won't interfere with the main image, as can be seen on the office wallpaper.
