Drall, with his strenght slipping away, fumbles in the recesses of his cloak.  He finds it, but dies before he can work it open.

Sighing, Miaka walked over to Arkanel. Upon reaching him, she said, "You are the one who contacted me, but you didn't mention anything about a girl helping you at the time." Quirking her head, she asked, "Who is this Lafiel, exactly?"

Arkanel looks at the young woman addressing him, a small smile crosses his face as he responds, "Lafiel is my niece.  She is in training under me."

Miaka blinked. "Umm," she started saying, tapping her lips with her forefinger thoughtfully, "wouldn't that make her Zaphiel's daughter? Or do you have some other siblings?"

"Zaphiel is my brother of the order.  He has no relationship to Lafiel," he said gruffly.

"Oh." Miaka smiled in relief. "Can you tell me more about this Order, then?"

"It is simply the brotherhood of clerics.  Those of us who are born of the chosen, may enter the order and guide the people of these lands to a happy and peaceful lifestyle."

Devon found that his Achillies tendon had been ripped.  He could put slight pressure on the foot, but not enough to stand on for any period of time.  Blood still oozed from the tears.

"I think you mentioned something about chosen ones before," Miaka said thoughtfully. Shaking her head as if to clear it, she asked in rapid succession, "So, how many people are there in the guild? Are they all sages like you? How many sages are there outside the guild?" bombarding Arkanel with questions.

The man brightened and looked fondly upon the inquisitive child.

"The chosen are born in frequently among the people.  They are distinquished because of their hair color, which is silver upon birth.  Births of the chosen are very infrequent and far between.  Those born, must pass the right of enlightenment when they reach the age of twenty five.  Those who pass, are made members of the order, and study in Jerusalem.  When they reach a certain age, they are sent to a villiage to help lead.  I don't think anyone keeps the numbers of the chosen in the world, nor do I know ofhand the number of members in the order.   I am the only chosen in Glendale to pass the rights and enter the order.  There are three children of the chosen, of which, Lafiel is the eldest, a year away from her right. Sitting down, Devon pulled off his boot and reached into his backpack, pulling out a small, rugged looking device with a luminous display.

Placing the device next to the wound, he pressed a green button the display.

With a little click, a small panel on the underside of the device opened, releasing a half-dozen button-sized robots that immediately began to anesthetize, clean, and suture the wound.  After a short while, the robots, finished with their task, returned to the device.

Stowing the device, he pulled out a bandage, wrapping it around his ankle, before pulling on his boot and standing.

"I see," Miaka drawled out. "So, there are three Chosen in the town, besides you. How many mages are there here besides you four?"

Arkanel responded to Miaka, "Mages don't exist on this world.  The chosen, who have passed the rite can perform some small tasks of healing, but referring to us as mages would be an insult.  It is also against the laws that govern the settlements here to practice arcane arts.  Especially those which wrought so much destruction upon this world.

"Of the three chosen in town, only Lafiel knows of her abilities, as she is allowed some training in them before her rite is begun.  The two other children are too young to begin, and won't for several years."

"Would you and Lafiel come with us to Camelot, then?" Miaka asked curiously. "And where is Camelot, anyway?"

Hearing Arkanel mention healing, Devon carefully moved over to where he and Miaka were talking.

"You mentioned some small healing ability, is there perhaps something you could do for my leg? As it is, it might be a liability if we are attacked again sometime in the near future."
