I have a dream that one day, men will be punched in the face not for the color of their skin, but for the awful content of their character.

"I will gladdly help you survey the area, if you like.  But I am a bit old to participate in fights, and not sure that physically, I'd be able to accompany you in entering the grounds.   I would strongly suggest... "Arkanel paused as he looked at the dead champion and then the Devon, using a strange contraption on his leg, "That if you are to have any chance, it would be to find a way to take on Zaphiel alone.  That means sneaking into Camelot.

"Lafiel would glady go I fear, but she must not be put in such danger," his face looked fierce as he spoke.

"Camelot is located at the end of the valley, built agaist the mountain walls.  Glendale is a short distance away, a mere ten miles."

He looked at Devon for a moment, before sighing, "I will do what I can, though I worry about your abilities to accomplish this task in light of your showing here today."

He knelt down and placed his hands upon Devon's legs.

Devon noticed the pain dissipating as Arkanel finished the healing the machines had started.

Frowning, Devon looked at the old man, "Do not fear for my abilities.  Now knowing something of the danger this world offers, I shall not be caught off-guard like that again."

"You mentioned the town again," Miaka said, cocking her head. "Can something useful to our goal be found there?"
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Arkanel nodded to Devon, a small smirk on his face before returning to the fair Miaka.

"It is the town I live in and serve, of course I would mention it.  I assumed you would use it, my home specifically, as a base to plan.  The town has a market, which might fill some needs, though you won't find anything directly concerning the art of war."

Arael retrieved her dagger from the fallen wolf and wiped it clean on its hide. After checking and failing to find some sign of life from the fallen warrior she closed his eyes and whispered a prayer to the Goddess.

"Arkanel," she called as she approached the wizard. "Why is it my that abilities turn upon themselves in this place?"

kpjam

Arkanel turned to Arael.

"Which abilities are those?  And how do they 'turn' against you?"

"My psionics. It's... well, psionics." She shrugged. "It's like asking me to tell you what magic is. And when I tried to levitate earlier all I got was a headache. What gives?"

kpjam

Arkanel looked contemplative for a minute before he began to speak.

"Magic?  Hmm...  The ancient stories say that magic was forbidden to those not of the chosen..."

He looked a bit nervous as he regarded the young girl, "Maybe... this psionics you have doesn't exist on this world, or maybe it is magic, and magic is forbidden?  Maybe this is how it is made forbidden?" he mused.

"Why were you trying to levitate?"  He asked suddenly.

"Why? I, um, don'treallymuchlikewalkingandit'sfaster!" Arael rushed, waving her arms in front of her and laughing nervously. It was not exactly lying. Ramiel had been rather cross at her for flying around all the time back home.

"Magic doesn't work here? And you didn't tell this to us before, why? Oh, right. Forbidden. Crap. Isn't there a way around that?"

kpjam

Arkanel looked at the girl quizically, not really understanding the first sentence all to well.

"I did not think the world would afflict you so, being from off world.   It is not something I thought long about."

He turned and looked into the distance, moving his hand to his forehead and rubbing it gently.

"I seem to rember a passage from a book I was translating.  It spoke of experiments with the natural laws of magic and ways to circumvent them.  The book was battered, and that was the only passge I found concerning that; tThe rest of it was lost."

"Hmm," Arael muttered. "Magic's been forbidden for about a thousand year here, huh?"

Arkanel turns back to Arael and nods.

Devon walked over to the wolf he had stuck with a knife and retreived his blade, then he retraced the wolf's path in an attempt to retreive his other knife.

"Figures." Arael sighed deeply. This was very, very bad.

"And are there any tales, say before that war a thousand years ago, about none chosen
using magic?"
