Miaka looked for the teleporting rod and its base.

The woman giggled at Areal.  "This a comfort establishment.  Many men come through here."

[kpjam]

Miaka saw it where Arkanel had placed it before, on the table close to where he had been eating.

Arael blinked. "An Inn? This doesn't look much like an Inn." She quickly added "No offense meant."

[kpjam]

The woman laughed at Arael.

"An inn?  Well, people sometimes sleep, though it's frowned upon.  No, we offer travelors and townfolks a place to meet, unwind, and enjoy the company of women."

"Oh, well that certainly sounds nice. Though I don't see how that would help me find a good man." Arael blinked as though only just realizing something. She turned fully toward the elegant woman and bowed repeatedly.

"Ack, I haven't even introduced myself! Please forgive my rudness. I am Arael Sabré."

[kpjam]

"Hitomi." The woman nodded to Arael in return.  "Well, most men have sought are services at least once.  And Arael is a nice name.  Where are you from?"

Walking over to it, Miaka put her hand on the teleporting rod. "Mind if I go and pl-- try to see how it works?" she asked Arkanel. "Oh, and do you have any other to-- things like it?"

Arkanel looked at the girl, a fond smile crossing his features.

"It is for your use.  As your groups sees fit.  Alas, this is the only item of magical ability I have.  I find magic... distasteful."

"Hi-to-mi," Arael spoke slowly. "That's a nice name."

"I'm from Zeal. It's not so much a town, per se, as a couple of houses. It's that way, a ways." Arael gestures vaguely in the direction from which the group had entered town.

"I think it's that way, anyway. I mean, that's where Mr. Arkanel found me." She looked back down the path of the town, back toward the bridge, and back down the path again. "I'm almost one hundred percent sure I'm right this time!" She grinned wildly, as though she had conquered a particularly difficult problem.

"Wow!" She took on a look of awe as Hitomi's earlier words almost visibly sank in. "Almost every man comes here? You must be an amazing business woman."

[Corwin]

"Yay! Thankies!" Miaka stopped herself short of jumping, and grabbed the rod and the base for it, putting them in her backpack and skipping outside to find a good place to practice with them.

Hitomi's eyes glazed over as Areal spoke.  When Areal finished, Hitomi replied, "I just offer people services they want, and have an eye for finding people who are good at providing those services."

She looked at Arael appraisingly.  "I even might be ablte to make a good comfort woman out of you.  But nevermind, you said you weren't interested.  Is there anything else I can do for you?  I have to set up for this evening, so I can't stand out here talking all evening."

Rackham stopped scraping and glanced in disbelief toward Nirae.  "You didn't get your jewels?!"

Arael looked down, uncertainty etched across her features. She idly kicked at the ground for a moment before visibly composing herself.

"I... You mentioned somebody earlier when I said Mr. Arkanel didn't want me to finish my journey. I think I heard him say that name too, but I don't think I was supposed to hear it. He seemed really mad when he said it. What kind of person is this Zaphiel? Is he... is he dangerous?" Arael's eyes began to water slightly.

"I... I really want to finish this. It's so close. B... but..."

Hitomi looked on concerned.  "You poor girl."  She moved to her and placed an arm around her.  "Why don't you come in and rest?  I can get you a nice cup of brandy, and you can tell me all about it."
