19:11 <•Kotono> Anne doesn't speak for some time, but she finally rises. She stretches slowly and murmurs out loud, carrying in the quiet, "Rest well." she concludes. Another stretch, "They should be awake by now, or close to it."
19:13 <Devar> "It certainly seems like a peaceful place that's welcoming us." Devar says as he moves to stand up. "I imagine Moridin has hoped people would come here again for a while."
19:22 <•Kotono> "Ah!" Anne visibly startles, a hop up into the air. She flutters like a surprised bird, whirling on you. "D-Devar. Ah, you're awake."
19:25 <Devar> "I've been up for a bit. Didn't want to interrupt." He gestures around. "Not sure if you had any guidance, but I just got a sense of peacefulness here."
19:27 <•Kotono> "I didn't, but it is the respectful thing to do. We're guests here," Anne lands once more, "Are you well recovered?"
19:28 <Devar> He nods. "As far as I can tell anyway." He says.
19:32 <•Kotono> "Then let's return to the others," Anne floats off back in the way she came, "I did look around a little more, and it's as we suspect. Monuments mostly, rememberances. All to spite a dead woman. One has to wonder how horrible she was to inspire such things."
19:34 <Devar> "I don't think anyone has to wonder. I do feel... bad? I guess? I mean it's easy to hope, it's more tragic to feel despair... but those things have to go hand in hand, don't they?" Devar asks as they go along. "I hope whoever governs loss and despair nowadays isn't quite as heavy handed."
19:39 <•Kotono> "Just so," Anne says as you fly back. By the time you arrive, you see Sanda's up. She's sitting blearily on the side of her bed, more asleep than awake.
19:39 <•Kotono> "Good morning," Anne says, voice full of bright cheer. "Isn't it a lovely day?"
19:40 <•Kotono> Sanda slowly turns and looks with sleep crusted eyes at Anne, then blankly turns back and her head drops down, eyes closed.
19:41 <•Kotono> Liza stirs at that, her trance breaking. She opens her eyes and rises, murmuring polite greetings and heading off to cleanse herself.
19:41 <Devar> "Rough night?" Devar asks. "If you're still feeling lousy lay back down."
19:48 <•Kotono> Sanda flops back with a soft whooomp of displaced air, then rolls onto her stomach. In moments she begins to softly snore. "Well, I shalln't begrudge her more sleep and peace," Anne murmurs, as meanwhile Milla sits up. She stretches long and slowly, "That was a good rest."
19:49 <Devar> Devar nods. "Hopefully it'll be a quiet trip."

21:37 <•Kotono> It's natural to sleep after that, new nature or not. When Devar awakens, he finds himself refreshed. His body is restless as he rises. All around him, everyone else is still asleep. However, there's no sign of Anne.
21:38 <Devar> Hm. She's probably fine, but it'd be best to at least go look for her, so he carefully gets up and goes to head out!
21:40 <•Kotono> Devar heads out. It take sa bit of searching, but she finds Anne at the statues in the town square. She kneels there, weapon and shield laid down as she is deep in prayer. Her hands are together, focus entirely inward on first glance.
21:41 <Devar> There's no reason to bother her, so he will take up a spot nearby and pray too. Eldath may have not been as active as Moore and the other gods during the Final Days, but he knows the peace she desired was fought and bled for by other faiths as well.
21:52 <•Kotono> This is peaceful. Nothing disturbs you and the quiet stillness of the village envelopes you. You feel your concerns fade away as you work, leaving behind only a sense of rightness.
21:53 <Devar> Skaya was likely right - that's what the purpose of this place is, to be a living memorial. He will simply continue praying until Anne finishes or something else catches his interest.
21:56 <•Kotono> There's a sense of peaceful amusement, gentle. It's like waters washing over you.
21:58 <Devar> Is this Her way of getting him to look around? He pulls himself up to his feet and then takes to the air.
22:03 <•Kotono> You don't see anything awry, but instead feel a sense of being loved and protected.
22:05 <Devar> Perhaps he can just rest then, and not worry about anything else for right this second. He decides to keep Anne company but just rest his body and mind, leaning back against some nearby structure.
22:08 <•Kotono> Thus Devar rests and enjoys those feelings until Anne says something...next time!

21:39 <•Kotono> Skaya sleeps deep. She dimly remembers incoherent dreams. She only awakens slowly, and has to blink sunlight out of her eyes. That doesn't feel right, but it's bright. Morning sun bright.
21:40 — Skaya stretches as she wakes up, careful not to hit anyone who might be nearby. Then, covering her eyes from direct sunlight, she looks about.
21:44 <•Kotono> Sunlight. Skaya rises from a grassy hill near a road. It feels and looks like autumn out here, the bright morning sunshine taking the edge off the cool morning. Trees full of changing colors are about, everything pretty in that way only about a week of autumn usually is.
21:45 <Skaya> "Surely you're not jealous that I visited Moradin's memorial?" Skaya says with a silly grin, starting to head down the road after a few stretches to warm up.
21:53 <•Kotono> You walk. It looks like a long path, but hm? You crest a hill and you see. Ahead lies winter. A long winter, cold and bitter. The people are emanciated, starved and desperate. Snow choked winds scream, and all looks frozen.
21:54 <Skaya> "Even though we've alerted all the nations we had contact with? Even though there should be no wars in the meantime? Even though we've been stockpiling food for the winter?" Skaya asks in dismay, staring at the people.
22:04 <•Kotono> The people are desperate. On the horizon you see the winds blow the snow harder, only a few figures standing against it in the far distance. They stand against it and struggle as the dying people fade away, fighting.
22:05 — Skaya approaches the people facing off against the winter. Would she see herself? Or someone she hadn't met yet?
22:08 <•Kotono> Skaya approaches and sees things...next time!

19:08 <•Kotono> "Nevertheless, we go onward," Anne walks, "How far it is, Rina?"
19:08 <•Kotono> "
19:08 <•Kotono> "Not far, I'll show you," Rina invites, "It's a view you won't forget."
19:10 — Skaya is content to follow, siding up to Liza. "Sorry I couldn't win that fight."
19:12 <Devar> Devar will follow along from the back, taking in the sights as they go.
19:19 <•Kotono> For now it's only a long hallway. At the end of it, it breaks into two passages. One is a little path upwards to a cliff, to some sort of opening. The other is a path that winds downwards at a more gentle slope. "This way," Rina leads you upwards, to the cliff. Here it opens up at the top of an impossibly wide and deep chasm. A chasm that's a view of an underground valley, terrance after terrance
19:19 <•Kotono> carved into the walls by nature and then dwarven hands. Here great towns and villages are built into each one, roads and paths connecting them. Deep below, so deep mist mostly hides it, a vast river silently roars. It's a big river even for above ground standards, winding through relentlessly. All about are buildings of stone, brick and similar, not a single other soul seen here. Only a view
19:19 <•Kotono> of what lies below, so many lost worlds.
19:21 <Skaya> "Are we still under Mellanics?" Skaya wonders, taking that astonishing view in.
19:22 <Devar> "Oh, Picke had no idea this was here, for what it's worth." Devar says. "I do also have some other news, but it can wait until after we're done here." He adds, taking to the air to get a look around. "Preserved like this for however long... is this all just some piece of what that river does, I wonder? Or is it all just really down there?"
19:26 <•Kotono> "This can't be natural," Anne decides at last, voice strained. "It's impossible. This has to be an act of the divine."
19:26 <•Kotono> "Of course he didn't," Milla says, but her voice lacks any heat, anything as she looks down. "It's an entire valley kingdom down here, undisturbed."
19:27 <Skaya> "Do you think it's meant to remain undisturbed, a memorial? Or is it to be used again?"
19:27 <•Kotono> "Moradin," Petrove whispers, hand over his chest. "As he carved the bones of the world, he surely crafted this valley."
19:28 <Devar> "Maybe we'll understand if we keep going?" Devar says.
19:34 <•Kotono> "We go on," Petrove says, "Moradin's wisdom will be shown to us deeper in, closer to the stones of the world."
19:34 <•Kotono> "There's no way I'm not seeing more," Sanda agrees, "This is an once in a lifetime chance."
19:36 <Skaya> "Let's try the other path, then," Skaya proposes. "It feels rude to just fly there directly."
19:43 <•Kotono> With that, the party heads down the other path. It doesn't have a view, but on you walk. Several minutes you follow the path, until ahead you see a larger opening. It's sealed with heavy stone doors, decorated with dwaves at work. Mining, smithing, crafting, brewing, building. The carvings are remarkably life-like, excellent quality and often inset with shining gold or lustrious silver to accent
19:43 <•Kotono> them.
19:45 <Skaya> "Dwarves are renown as great smiths and builders," Skaya muses, studying the decorations. "Alcohol makes sense, too. But does it mean that dwarves don't take pride in farming or hunting, say?"
19:53 <•Kotono> "We farm, but this is built to Moradin, I'm sure of it," Petrove explains, "Other deities see to that and to hunting. Moradin himself is a hunter, but it's not his primary virtue."
19:54 <Skaya> "Ah, so that's how it is!"
19:54 <•Kotono> "You serve Moore? There's more to Moore than hope, but what would a common man say of Moore, if the knew of him at all?" PEtrove continues, a glance to Anne.
19:54 <•Kotono> "That's how it is," Anne concurs, "Surface level knowledge is what is most salient."
19:56 <Devar> "Is this sort of thing...hmm, I don't want to say normal, because nothing about here is really normal, but..." Devar considers, looking up at the mural. "Something of significance must've happened here beyond just what the mausoleum was erected for?"
20:04 <•Kotono> "I don't know," PEtrove says in thought, "But we'll find out of we go on." He goes to the door and touches it, pushing it open. Ahead the stone gives way to brickwork, a torch lit passage leading to stairs going down. Fine stairs of pristine white marble, shined and undulled by the passage of time.
20:05 — Skaya heads down the passage!
20:05 <Devar> "I'm sure the enchantments here are things of legend." Devar says, marveling at the condition of everything.
20:10 <•Kotono> Not a single chip, stain or worn down point. Not even the torches are anything but at their best. "It's like time refuses to touch it, or it's so well made time does nothing to it," Sanda marvels, "Imagine being a smith this good. You coul dname your prices."
20:12 <•Kotono> Down the passage and out. There! You step out into the streets of a dwarven village. Each building is stone or brick, sturdily built. The roads are paved gray stone, smooth and with no unevenness. They are far superior to dirt path, cobblestones or town roads. The buildings are all in fine condition, not a one disturbed. Before each doorway a plaque is set into the ground.
20:13 <Skaya> Who could even afford it? No, who would even sell it to random strangers in the first place? Demand must be quite higher than supply, Sanda! Thinking thus, Skaya approaches to read a nearby plaque.
20:13 <Devar> "Beyond the fact that this place is a marvel, Petrove, is this pretty standard for a village?" Devar asks, gesturing at the buildings and then the plaque.
20:18 <•Kotono> "Far nicer, but it's about right," Petrove follows, absorbed in every little thing. The plaque reads, "Salline's Butcher Shop. Mother and father stood proud against the shadows of Shar as their children ran out the back. Let their bravery and sacrifice never be forgotten."
20:18 <Devar> "Ah, perhaps 'river' is metaphorical in this case." Devar says.
20:19 <Skaya> "This town is not meant to be lived in again," Skaya says quietly, moving over to read the other plaques one by one.
20:27 <•Kotono> It's all much the same. A tailor's shop. A stonesmith. Residential houses. Farmhouses. All with stories of those who stood against Shar's shadows. In time this takes you to the town square. Here statues of hundreds of dwarves stand. Common dwarves, each one made life-like perfection. Each one stands, a momentry captured and preserved. "You're right. This isn't a place for the living, but for
20:27 <•Kotono> the memories of what came before. A monument to spite Shar's memory, that those who stood against her would not be forgotten," Anne says, voice solemn.
20:29 <•Kotono> "I remember the stories of the Final Day, but all fo this makes it seem so alive." Rina says, likewise serious.
20:30 <Devar> "That certainly also explains why there hasn't been anyone down here. I mean... besides the dragon, really." Devar says. "But this place shouldn't just be forgotten down below, I hope more people can see it eventually."
20:37 <•Kotono> "Do we go deeper or is this enough?" Sanda questions at this, "It's fascinating, but if it's all ike this, it's history."
20:37 <Skaya> "Let's take a look at any public works. Perhaps there is a mine or a smithy?"
20:38 <•Kotono> "Fine with me," Milla says, taking it all in. "Even if you don't, I'm going to stay longer. I need to make sure it's not goign to make trouble for us."
20:39 <•Kotono> The party wanders a little more. There's several paths into the earth leader deeper in, but also to the side. A larger cave entrance. Within can be spied dig tunnels, as well as minecarts and tracks. Mining equipment lies stacked about neatly, all of it in perfect condition. A plaque sits within as well.
20:39 — Skaya studies this plaque. As it is one of the things Moradin is well known for, perhaps there would be some difference?
20:42 <•Kotono> It reads: She wished for the mines to go silent and fade into nothing. Then, the greatest act of defiance is to mine the earth's treasures. Success or failure, all spites Shar's memory.
20:43 <Skaya> "What do you think about this?" Skaya voices, gesturing at the plaque. "Unlike those in the town itself, it seems like Moradin wishes the mines to be used again?"
20:48 <•Kotono> Petrove reads it, "I can see no harm in doing that," he agrees, "It's not theft, but carrying on the legacy of the miners who died to Shar's shadows."
20:49 <•Kotono> "It does sound like an invitation," Milla concurs, and goes and takes a pickaxe. She hefts it, "Good weight to it, too. I've held professionally smithed weapons worse than this."
20:50 <Skaya> "So maybe that's the true intent here? To both serve as a memorial, and allow for people to work where it's allowed? Perhaps later, the town itself will change and allow new people to settle there alongside the memorials of the old."
20:52 <•Kotono> "I like the symmetry of it," Anne considers, "Death but life. Memories honored and new ones created."
20:52 <•Kotono> Sanda meanwhile takes a pickaxe as well,  "And if we get lucky, more luck to us."
20:53 <Devar> "There may be places in town without plaques." Devar says. "It is pretty big, we saw a lot from up high."
20:53 <Skaya> "Perhaps. For now, let's all give mining a try?"
20:53 <•Kotono> "Ther emight be," Rina considers, before takine one of her own. "It feels like an invitation, and maybe one of us will get lucky."
20:54 <Devar> "Mining isn't exactly my strong suit, but I'll give it my best shot along with the rest of you." He says.
20:55 <•Kotono> "Very well," Anne considers it and joins you, as does everyone. Thus the party goes in and...OOC: d100 all. If you have 5 or more ranks of K:D, +5 bonus. If you have ranks in a related profession or other skill that you feel is topical to mining, +5 bonus (ask first). If you have the earth subtype, +10 bonus. If you have a skill that's 100% relevant, such as profession(miner), say so and you'll
20:55 <•Kotono> get a supplementary roll as well.

21:08 ↔ Devar nipped out
21:10 <•Kotono> It becomes a haze. It's not anything you remember entirely, but instead little memories of it. Of mining, of working hard. Day in and day out. It's good, honest work and slowly the earth yields its treasures. It's Rina who gets lucky first, a vein of silver found and mined. Memories of mining it out and finding a few others nearby, taking it all and then refining it. Refining it into small
21:10 <•Kotono> slender little bars of silver. Next is Petrove, who strikes gold. It glitters beautifully as you dig out chunk after chunk and then refine it as well. Finally, Milla? She finds red gemstones. Rubies the color of red-purple wine, carefully taken, polished, refined and carved. Until you have handfuls of gorgeous cut rubies, well crafted. Then...with exhaustion so deep you can barely think, each
21:10 <•Kotono> of you realize yu're standing before the mine entrance. A stack of gold bars, of silver bars and of polished rubies sits on the ground, along with fading memories. OOC: All of you are exhausted, as per the condition. Additionally, each of you gain the following in loot and in nagging. Posts incoming.
21:11 <Skaya> "Let's... let's see if there is an inn here where we're allowed to rest?" Skaya proposes, not relishing the trek back or further exploration.
21:12 <•Kotono> OOC: Posts.
21:13 <Devar> Devar has ways of restoring his fatigue, but given where they are, Skaya's idea sounds better. "Yes, I agree." He says with a nod. "After a hard... however long it was."
21:15 <•Kotono> Anne clutches her holy symbol, and in moments her visible bags under her eyes and stooped posture rights itself. "What a strange experience. Fear not, I'll help any who lack the strength to go back on their own."
21:16 <•Kotono> Rina sinks to her knees, yawning hugely.
21:16 <•Kotono> Sanda slumps down next to the treasure, "So shiny," she whispers, "Look at what we dug up." She takes a gold bar, running a finger along it.
21:16 <•Kotono> Milla looks tired, but simply says, "We need to rest, you're right."
21:18 <Skaya> "And after resting, let's experience the other echoes of the past. Smithing, brewing and the rest."
21:24 <•Kotono> There's nods all around to that. The party goes out and...OOC: PErception, both of you.
21:25 <Devar> OOC: Take 10 for 22! No 1's for me, thanks!
21:25 <Skaya> OOC: 10 for 30
21:29 <•Kotono> More asleep than awake, the party stumbles on a building with a plaque. Sure enough, it's a simple, communal inn. More like barracks, but there's beds here. Sanda slumps into one without a word, not even changing, and Rina's right behind her. Anne simply says, "Rest, I'll keep vigil."
21:29 <•Kotono> Petrove grunts and gets a bed, "Change and wash later," he says, closing his eyes.
21:29 — Skaya seeks out a place to wash up first. She can manage that much, with a proper place to rest found.
21:30 <Devar> "It's odd to be fatigued after our other gift." Devar says with a yawn. "Get me if anything happens, Anne." He says as he goes to lay down.
21:33 <•Kotono> roll 1d100
21:33 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d100 --> [ 1d100=62 ]{62}
21:36 <•Kotono> Liza sits on a bed, sitting up but eyes closed. At trance, perhaps. Like this a rest passes for the party. OOC: More. Devar in here, Skaya in #evil.

Mini Game Logs / The Dwarven Memorial 024
Last post by Corwin - May 31, 2026, 02:51:08 PM
19:43 <•Kotono> The next day a dwarf is produced. A squat fellow, he has a face that has burn patches all over it. No facial hair but a wild mane of thick stone-gray hair that reaches past his shoulders. He wears simple enough cltohes with a breastplate over them. He walks in with a stare down at all of you, patches of burnt, ruined skin all on his face like he got sprayed with fire. Milla enters a step behind
19:43 <•Kotono> him.
19:44 <•Kotono> Anne simply nod to him, expression blank. Sanda's not quite so good and stares several moments, before clearing her throat and looking away.
19:45 <Skaya> "Hello!" Skaya greets him, coming over to shake his hand. "Thank you so much for coming on short notice!"
19:47 <Devar> Devar raises a hand in greeting!
19:49 <•Kotono> Skaya gets a handshake back, Devar and Anne a nod. "The pay's good," he says, "And the story's better." His voice is gruff and rough. More than that, damaged perhaps. "Tell me what you found down in the soil's bones."
19:50 <Skaya> "Why don't we talk as we go?" Skaya proposes. "It is a bit of a walk."
19:53 <•Kotono> "Go ahead," The dwarf says, "All of you are?"
19:54 <•Kotono> "Skaya, Devar, Anne, Sanda, Liza," Anne lists off one by one, pointing each time. "You are?"
19:55 — Skaya smiles when Anne says her name.
19:56 <•Kotono> "Petrove," The dwarf answers as he follows, not adding anything else.
19:56 <•Kotono> Liza sniffs but doesn't push it, perhaps for the best.
19:57 <•Kotono> OOC: Any precautions heading down or just going on down?
19:58 <Skaya> OOC: We'll go without precautions! But tell him about what's below.
20:03 <•Kotono> The trip down is uneventful. No more signs of ankhegs - at least until you reach the lake. A much large than normal burrow hole is here, and an anhkeg lies on the ground here, torn in half. Blood splatter is about, along with unmentionable parts that are normally on the inside.
20:04 <Skaya> "What do you think? Lava dragon strikes again?"
20:05 <•Kotono> Rina smoothly advances, checking the burorw hole. "It's waterlogged deeper in," she says after peering in. "It went a little too close to the lake's edge.I'm guessing it turns into a clogged, impassable mess further past that because of the water."
20:05 <•Kotono> Anne grimaces, "Perhaps, or perhaps something else. I hope it was only the lava dragon."
20:06 <•Kotono> Petrove looks on, "At least one less of those are around. Miserable pests, those things."
20:06 <Skaya> "So it's still dangerous here, but nothing that would immediately cause us to retreat," Skaya muses. "Alright, let's see if we can open the door, then."
20:06 <•Kotono> Milla sniffs the air and kneels next to half of the ankheg. "It didn't die within the past few hours. I'd assume overnight."
20:07 <•Kotono> That gets a few side eyes, but nothing more. Anne instead takes to the air, "Then let us cross over to the other side of the lake with all haste."
20:07 <•Kotono> Sanda goes to the lake's edge, "What do you think the odds are that there's anything worthwhile in the water?"
20:08 <Devar> "Closer to zero than further away from it, I imagine." Devar says.
20:08 <Skaya> "Even odds of riches and danger," Skaya voices. "Want to take Devar's telepathy ring so we can rescue you if things go bad?"
20:10 <•Kotono> "Please," Sanda says, going to Devar, "I fnothing else, I'll be safe from the fire sahuagin in there."
20:12 — Skaya grins at Devar, saying, "Worthwhile things can be experiences, too. You can't just think in terms of material treasure!"
20:12 <Devar> Devar hands it over to Sanda! "Don't do anything reckless." He says with a smile.

20:16 <•Kotono> Eventually, Sanda emerges back up. "Nothing interesting," she says blandly, unbothered by the water. "
20:16 <•Kotono> Eventually, Sanda emerges back up. "Nothing interesting," she says blandly, unbothered by the water. "At least nothing worth dredging out of there."
20:17 <Skaya> "It's better to try than to give up! At least now we can move on with a calm heart."
20:19 <•Kotono> "Onward," Anne says, as a bit of a flight and then a walk takes you to the archway you found before, that Rina stoneswam past. Ball's in your court.
20:21 <Skaya> "So like I was saying, unlike the mausoleum, there is no clear way to enter here," Skaya tells Petrove. "We figured that since going through stone lets you pass, it's not a complicated magical defense but one that looks for kin. So an honest appeal from you should do it?"
20:33 <•Kotono> PEtrove looks over it, "I'll take a look," He promises, going up. He touches the archway, reads it. After a little bit he kneels and goes into prayer. After several minutes of that, the stone shimmers and changes, a passageway ahead revealed.
20:33 <•Kotono> Anne smiles, "Easier than I had anticipated."
20:33 — Skaya waits for Petrove to finish before asking, "Are we allowed inside?"
20:44 <•Kotono> Once done he stands, "I don't see why not, but yo um ight get a surprise or three," he warns, "Your skin."
20:44 <•Kotono> Anne considers this, as Sanda says ,"I like those odds. We can handle it." She steps on in and ahead.
20:44 <•Kotono> Liza follows, as does Rina, unbothered.
20:44 <Devar> Devar will go in last with the others!
20:44 — Skaya steps in with them.
20:51 <•Kotono> The party steps in. HEre is a wide, broad passage lit with smokeless torches on the walls. The way ahead is paved stone, like an underground road. You walk a little distance, before in Common, "You come in without sneaking this time, woman?" A man's voice, echoing all around.
20:51 <•Kotono> Rina immediately looks about, hand on her sword, "You saw me last time?"
20:52 <Devar> It *would* make sense for something like this to have some sort of guardian...
20:52 <Skaya> "We didn't know what the proper key was at the time," Skaya speaks up. "If you wish to blame someone for that, I'll take full responsibility."
20:54 <•Kotono> Petrove bows and in Dwarven, "Greetings, honored protector."
20:55 <•Kotono> "I saw you." The voice continues, "Well met, blood of the stone and earth. I have no quarrel with you. As for the interloper, you would take responsibility for her?"
20:56 <Skaya> "I'm responsible for my choices," Skaya responds with a nod. "What amends should I make?"
21:02 <•Kotono> "Are you willing to face danger and death to make amends?" Is the question back.
21:03 — Skaya doesn't see a need to drag this out. So long as she's not asked to go against her conscience, the rest is easily done, and so she nods.
21:09 <•Kotono> "Then step forward and have the others step back," Is the answer.
21:09 <•Kotono> "Be careful," Anne says simply, "We don't know what this iwll be."
21:10 — Skaya spreads her arms helplessly in return to Anne's words. Of course they don't! But this is fine. She takes several steps ahead, clearing the potential blast radius.
21:14 <•Kotono> A figure manifests. Indistinct, but vaguely human like. A heavy, two handed mace is wielded as it advances, "Prepare yourself. Trial by combat shall set things to right, no matter the outcome."
21:15 — Skaya nods before casting two spells, one for offense and one for defense. "What are the rules?" she asks. "And what are the victory conditions, besides death and surrender?"

21:16 <•Kotono> The moment you cast the figure advances, giving you no chance to do so. OOC: It's not going to let you sit there and prep, so rather than spells, roll init.
21:16 <Skaya> OOC: He did liteally say prepare yourself, but fine!
21:17 <Skaya> roll 1d20+13
21:17 <Kobot> Skaya rolled 1d20+13 --> [ 1d20=7 ]{20}
21:17 <•Kotono> OOC: Very much a turn of phrase they didn't think through, but fair. Still, init, since spellcasting usually means a fight.
21:17 <•Kotono> roll 1d20+8
21:17 <Kobot> Kotono rolled 1d20+8 --> [ 1d20=8 ]{16}
21:17 <•Kotono> OOC: Open. The figure is 15ft away.
21:18 <•Kotono> "Good luck!" Sanda calls, "Show them how strong you are!"
21:18 <Skaya> Suddenly, Skaya is all the way by the indistinct figure! And then she attacks relentlessly!

21:23 <•Kotono> Punches and kicks rain down on the figure. A jab snaps its head back, then a kick to the gut knocks them back. Their guard is broken, letting Skaya pummel its ribs, blow after blow striking. It's resistant, hard to hurt, but you still feel it giving some each time, each blow effective if reduced. It's hard to tell detail son the figure, more a suggestion than real, but you hit it several times.
21:23 <•Kotono> It does not yield, but instead steps forward, returning fire at Skaya.

21:26 <•Kotono> Skaya brings her guard up, but the mace blow to her arms shatters her guard. She stumbles back as the mace hits her right in the stomach, doubling her over. She wheezes and retreats back, coughing and seeing nothing but a white-red haze of pain. That blow was tremendously powerful, each attack devastating. It's only her awkward stumbles that saved her from two more swings, fire returned indeed.
21:26 <•Kotono> OOC: Go.
21:26 <•Kotono> Liza gasps, a hand to her chest. Anne looks intense, "This won't last long, either way."
21:26 <•Kotono> "They both hit hard," Rina agrees.
21:26 <Skaya> That's ridiculously strong! But Skaya doesn't give up, and instead launches into her own counter-offensive before clicking her heels and dancing out of the way.
21:27 <Skaya> OOC: I want to full attack, then retreat with the travel devotion's move action and avoid an AoO with acrobatics

21:32 <•Kotono> Skaya retreats away, past everyone and buying time. Her wounds mend as she does, as in return the figure suddenly breaks apart - only to reform a moment later above Skaya, coming down for a single, heavy downward blow from above.

21:34 <•Kotono> Skaya can't react fast enough. Liza's dismayed crit is heard as Skaya brings her arms up, but is knockeddown hard. The impact leaves her ears ringing, a reflexive roll back and spring up the only reason she's not down and out. The power behind that blow was tremendous, the figure now before her as...OOC: Go.
21:35 <Skaya> Well then. She decided to go all in, and it hasn't actually carried her across. But when magical reserves fade, there is still her!
21:35 <Skaya> roll 1d20+13

21:40 <•Kotono> Two blows. Neither the best, both resisted. It's still enough to stagger the figure, who then breaks apart. Then this time to your side, swinging again once heavily, everything it has behind it. "Dodge!" Liza cries, as Milla watches with intense concentration.

21:43 <•Kotono> This time the blow is so heavy that Skaya's knocked flying back. She lands hard, barely able to breathe. No lethal strikes but her entire body screams as her as she scrambles up, the creature's mace raised up for another strike as...OOC: Go.
21:45 <Devar> Devar's been watching this whole time with a frown, but he isn't going to interfere now. It doesn't seem like her life is actual in any real danger here, so he just stays put.
21:46 <Skaya> Looks like this is the end. Skaya is disappointed, quite frankly. Surely she hit him hard enough to take someone like her twice over? But there's always someone here to teach her a lesson about not being ready for her challenges, so all she can do is give her best. Wiping blood off her lips, she narrows her eyes at her opponent. "Take my last attack. If you can still stand afterwards, it's fully my loss."
21:47 <Skaya> roll 1d20+13

21:53 <•Kotono> The blow hits hard. It's not hard enough. The figure staggers but stays up and swings hard - but doesn't finish the swing. "I'll accept your yielding. Well fought." The figure speaks, "You are courageous and your friends honorable not to interfere. You do not have the feel of thieves." He reaches out, one glimmering hand touching Skaya as healing flows through her. OOC: Nonlethal damage restored.
21:54 <Skaya> "Thank you," Skaya says gratefully, not having taken such treatment for granted. "You are very strong."
21:54 <•Kotono> Petrove comes forward, "Are you one of those created by Moradin?"
21:54 Skaya set the topic: Skaya: 100/100 (Sanda's bracers of +4CON, GMW +2) Devar 113/113 Anne 83/83 Sanda 60/60 Rina 85/85
21:56 <•Kotono> "You have strength for a mortal," A gracious nod back, "I am a servant of Moradin, nothing more. Why have you all come to this place of rememberance?"
21:57 <Skaya> "Beyond lies the Valley of Echoing Rivers. Only enter if you wish to see the remains of the past," Skaya recites. "After accidentally visiting Moradin's memorial for the Last Day here, we did truly wish to see these remains of the past."
22:04 <•Kotono> "Then go on," The figure invites, "If you wish to see what lies in memorial, I will not stop you."
22:05 <•Kotono> roll 1d8

22:06 <Skaya> "Thank you," Skaya repeats, inclining her head, and then proceeds.
22:10 <•Kotono> As you walk along, "There's always someone stronger," Milla muses, a glance back as you go. "But that was no one normal."
22:11 <Devar> "I guess it's a good thing you only looked around when you were here, Rina." Devar says with a nod to Milla.
22:11 <Skaya> "I really need some kind of a trump card," Skaya says with a sigh. "That was just unreasonable."
22:12 <•Kotono> "We're each other's trump cards," Anne counters, "We don't normally fight alone."
22:12 <Skaya> "Nice!"
22:12 <•Kotono> "It is good," Rina admits, "Geez, I dodged one there."
22:12 <•Kotono> "You really did," Petrove says grimly, "I doubt it would held those strikes otherwise."
22:15 <•Kotono> At that you advance forward adn Anne starts to speak...next time! OOC: Ran a bit over since I started a bit late, but it's that time.

18:57 <Devar> <Devar> "It's going to sound a little strange, but I understand why the pieces were important. With all of them I can create as much water as you or anyone else needs."
18:57 <Devar> <Kotono> A thoughtful nod at that, "That makes them important," Picke agrees, as...OOC: Okay, I don't want you getting too far ahead from Skaya, and this was mostly to pay off the long wait on that last piece, so let's pick up there next time.
19:11 <•Kotono> After some thought, "I'll look into it." With a slight grimace, "I asn't looking to sleep the next few days, anyway."
19:13 <Devar> "Do you want me to stay here for a while?" He asks.
19:15 <•Kotono> There's a little thought before, "No. There's no point, it's still summer. If you're needed, I can send for you. Besides, you'll be eaten alive politically."
19:16 <Devar> He nods. "Then I'll wait to hear from you." Devar says. "Sorry to keep causing trouble."
19:21 <•Kotono> OOC: In that case, heading back?
19:22 <Devar> OOC: yep
19:28 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, more in a few.
19:36 <•Kotono> Soon enough the party reunites, Devar returning from his trip. With that..OOC: Due to the interruption, lemme do a quick check of what your immediate plans are.
19:38 <Skaya> OOC: Devar has the dragon prep, and we all have the visit to the dwarven land! Milla promised to recruit a cool dwarf and come with us.
19:38 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay. Dwarf stuff first, I presume?
19:39 <Skaya> OOC: yes
19:39 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, more.

19:10 <•Kotono> Crossing her arms and looking away, "You're stealing away my best friend," Sanda finally says, mulishly, towards Liza.
19:10 <•Kotono> "...you're growing on me, human," Liza mutters, still red faced, "Very much."
19:15 <Skaya> "Thank you. Both of you!" Skaya gives a relieved smile. "Isn't it better to just talk properly? Sanda, I'm not being stolen, you're clearly involved as much as before in everything. So there's no need to just ruin your mood with hypotheticals that aren't happening." Looking over at Liza next, she says, "See? It's like that, so there's no need to be upset with each other."
19:21 <•Kotono> "Hmph." Sanda doesn't sound entirely convinced.
19:21 <•Kotono> Liza goes to your side, "Yes, then there's no problem," she takes your arm, "Is there, Sanda?"

19:23 <Skaya> "Well, since you asked...." Skaya decides to just be blunt as it's been working so far. "Do you girls really look down on elven and human culture, or was that just bickering? Because if you don't want to visit elven lands with me, Sanda, or you aren't interested in touring human towns with me, Liza, we don't have to do that. There's plenty of other options."
19:29 <•Kotono> "...it's not that bad," Liza murmurs, red faced again.
19:29 <•Kotono> "...It's fine." Sanda says shortly, not pushing it. "Really, ti's fine."
19:31 <Skaya> "Okay! Great!"
19:34 <•Kotono> OOC: Okay, anything else to add here or are we good to move along?
19:35 <Skaya> OOC: We're good
19:35 <•Kotono> OOC: #dunes.

19:14 <•Kotono> Rina looks unbothered by that, as you end up with Liza on one side and Sanda on the other, again. At least it'll make the walk over eventful?
19:15 <Skaya> Rina will definitely get hers, Skaya solemnly promises that. For now, she waits until they reach Sanda's shop and its relative privacy!
19:23 <•Kotono> That happens well enough. It's quiet here - looks like it's closed for the day. Sanda lets all of yo uin and Liza looks about, "It's so small and provincial. It's so charming, you're so fearless to show it off like this." Liza says sweetly.
19:24 <Skaya> "So I actually had a hidden reason to ask you two to come here!" Skaya says cheerfully, clapping her hands to hopefully cut off the fight right at the start. "Do you girls mind helping me with something?"
19:31 <•Kotono> Both turn to you, "What is it," Sanda asks, argument interrupted.
19:33 <Skaya> "I honestly am having a hard time believing it. Like, you ever get that feeling? That's you're thinking too much of yourself? But anyway, it can't be that you want to date me, can it? And I keep on thinking about it and it occupies my mind a lot! So what's going on?"
19:37 <•Kotono> Liza turns absolutely crimson and makes incoherent noises.
19:37 <•Kotono> Sanda slowly tilts her head to the side, "Date you?"
19:39 <Skaya> "Yes," Skaya says, overcoming her embarrassment that sinks like a heavy stone in her stomach. "You surely realized that this is what all our friends think. Even strangers are giving me all these looks, like I'm some-- well, I'm not. But I'm honestly confused? Didn't both of you tell me you weren't interested before?"

19:15 <•Kotono> "Yes, they did," Picke nods a tthat, "He got in today, magic was involved. The details aren't important, but someone did us a favor."
19:16 <Devar> "I had a feeling it may come to that." Devar says, but he sounds relieved. "Given what we were told about it."
19:22 <•Kotono> "It's fortunate," Picke smiles a little "It could have gone much worse. So," he gets up, "No time like the present."
19:24 <Devar> "I admit, I've been curious." Devar says.
19:31 <•Kotono> "Let's go," Picke says, and as he starts to lead you along, "You and all of you seem to attract trouble."
19:34 <Devar> Devar can't help but laugh at that.
19:37 <•Kotono> Picke joins in as you go along and...OOC: Sec, this might be family.
23:16 <•Kotono> Picke joins in as you go along. It's not a terribly long walk, into one of the many guest quarters. A few guards stand outside of it, who nod respectfully at Picke. "No one's made trouble, sir."
23:16 <•Kotono> "Good. Jus tin case," Pick ementions you as yo ugo.
23:17 <Devar> Devar nods to him. "No, best not to take chances."
23:21 <•Kotono> Inside are a few more guards, standing around a simple wooden box. Nothing fancy, but it is locked. Picke takes out a key and goes to open it, the guest room otherwise empty.
23:22 <Devar> Devar idly wonders if the room is somehow warded against teleportation, but decides not to ask and just watch.
23:25 <•Kotono> Inside that box is a smaller box, polished wood. A jewelry box. "All yours, it's inside," Picke passes it over.
23:25 <Devar> Devar will rather reverently open the box to peer inside. OOC: Unless given a reason not to, he will cast Identify on it too, unsurprisingly.
23:31 <•Kotono> Within the box is an amulet in the shape of a water droplet. You scan it and...OOC: Loot.
23:31 <•Kotono> "Is that the last of it, or do you need to find more?" Picke asks in the meantime.
23:33 <Devar> "I believe this is it." Devar says. He carefully removes it from the box to put it on after taking his other necklace off.
23:42 <•Kotono> You feel knowledge settle into you. As you realize it? (OOC: Loot.) You see something. All of Laremy City, freezing and gasping for water, pawing at snow and ice.
23:47 <Devar> Devar blinks, then blinks again. He turns slowly to Picke. "What's the status of the water supplies for the city? I think I may have some work ahead of me."
23:50 <•Kotono> Picke's answer isn't fit for polite society, and after a few choice comments, "There's never a good reason to ask that. Explain."
23:52 <Devar> "I saw a vision - much like we've been seeing them for the upcoming winter." Devar explains. "The citizens, the people of the city, freezing in the cold, but somehow still thirsty, desperately trying to get to snow and ice to drink."
23:53 <•Kotono> "The river might freeze, and if that freezes wells may as well," Picke reflects, "But there's nothing stopping melt water to drink if needs must. That by itself wouldn't explain that."
23:54 <Devar> "Unless there's something special about the snow and ice that's coming." Devar says. "This is Auril we're talking about."
23:56 <•Kotono> "So it is," Picke says sourly, "More warning is good, but can those do anything about it?"
23:57 <Devar> "It's going to sound a little strange, but I understand why the pieces were important. With all of them I can create as much water as you or anyone else needs."
00:01 <•Kotono> A thoughtful nod at that, "That makes them important," Picke agrees, as...OOC: Okay, I don't want you getting too far ahead from Skaya, and this was mostly to pay off the long wait on that last piece, so let's pick up there next time.

20:58 <•Kotono> Darkness has fallen by the time you reach Laremy City. By now you know the way in, and finding Picke isn't hard. He's high up in one of the many towers, standing a mostly empty room. Only a few comfortable couches are here, along with a rack of wood for the fireplace. He's looking out over at Laremy City, hands behind his back as he takes in the night time view.
21:00 <Devar> "Sorry to ruin the view." Devar says first, "I wouldn't be here if it weren't relatively important. Are you aware of what happened in Mellanics?"
21:03 <•Kotono> "I've been busy all day," Picke turns to you. It's not hard tos ee the exhaustion on his face, "You know, I came up here for peace and quiet." Nonetheless he goes to a couch here, "Don't let that silence you. I know that you'd not be here lightly."
21:06 <Devar> "There was a dragon under the city taking a nap for a few hundred years. It woke up." Devar says. "We saved who we could - the city is still standing, the actual damage is minor given the subject matter."
21:14 <•Kotono> "Oh. Yes. Him." Picke sounds annoyed, "Did anyone try talking to him before attacking?"
21:16 <Devar> "I chatted with him on his way out. No one attacked him - well, an ankheg did that he ate, it's why he woke up." Devar says. "Your daughter isn't going to be thrilled when I tell her you knew about it."
21:18 <•Kotono> "Wasn't my choice. It's a long story, but I was ordered not to speak that I knew he existed." Picke explains as he lets his head rest back, "At least you were there and defused the problem. Did it cost you anything?"
21:20 <Devar> "He's going to be back in a few weeks but I have a feeling he's just going to fall asleep somewhere." Devar says. "I never promised him anything but said we'd trade with him. If he comes back demanding something then we can figure it out. Did you know about all the dwarven stuff down there too?" He
21:20 <Devar> asks - his voice isn't judgmental, just curious.
21:21 <•Kotono> A blink. A genuine look of surprise before, "Dwarven what now?"
21:23 <Devar> "There's basically a mausoleum down under some caverns. Big lake, too. Further down is some river and a big valley apparently." Devar says. "I'm guessing our dragon friend was blocking the way."
21:33 <•Kotono> "An actual colony of dwarves? That doesn't make sense," Picke says, "We'd have seen some sign of that."
21:41 <Devar> "No, none living." Devar says. "We think they moved on sometime right after the Final Days." He explains. "We are trying to figure out the best and safest way to show people."
21:50 <•Kotono> "I'll have to tell the Queen about this," Picke gets up, "What is there to know?"
21:53 <Devar> "Not much beyond what I know - there's an enchanted mausoleum dedicated to those who died in the fights during that time." He says. "The others are trying to find a dwarf to help open the way further."
21:54 <•Kotono> "Have Milla keep me informed," Picke says, "So a dragon and dwarves. What else?"
21:55 <Devar> "Besides the fire ankhegs I think that's it for today." He says. "Anything on that Clearwater piece? Has our merchant friend helped at all?"
