"Please, take a seat. I'm sure your visit hasn't been entirely warm, and on a person to person level I want to apologise for that. What did you want to broach with us today?"

[Anastasia]

"We simply wish to know what you're doing," Merrala replies, sitting with her hands in her lap, "And why you're doing it."

[Iron Dragoon]

"With all due respect, why are you entitled to that information?"

[Anastasia]

With a smile rather chilly and sharp, "Because, young lady, it means if you blunder, we may not need to take actions in self defense, if we know there is nothing going on but the mistakes of youth."

Emily's gaze narrows at that, "Excuse me?"

"Merrala of Dalewall," Madala cuts in, "Sorceress and Fist of the Mageocracy. Sent to solve problems, by words or force. I heard of what you did in the west."

Madala takes 10 on a K:L check.

It rings a bell but you can only recall basics now that you think of it. A Fist of the Mageocracy is a traveling sorcerer or wizard who solves problems. Usually violently, they're essentially adventurers.

[Iron Dragoon]

"Merrala, I know you're used to things working a certain way. Please don't be unnecessarily confrontational. I've been quite busy, so please be specific as to what concerns you."

[Anastasia]

"I will tell you no lies," Merrala retorts, "My intent is exactly as it is said. Rather than blundering, it is a chance for us to communicate."

[Iron Dragoon]

"Communication can be a very complex thing. While I'm sure you're forming an idea of me as something of a child who thinks herself overly cleaver, what I'm trying to do is ensure we're both on the same page. I'm sure your diviners have put quite a bit of effort in, and I'm sure they've either missed or gotten things wrong. Instead of starting this conversation based on assumptions, like you assuming I'm a foolish girl and I assuming you've come here solely to... shall we say, flex some muscle, how about we both start by laying things out simply and clearly so this meeting can have some level of productivity instead of repeated clash of wills that gets neither of us what we want."

[Anastasia]

"Then I'll repeat myself again: What are you doing?" Merrala drawls out slowly, "Talk to us, lest there be misfortune and bloodshed when it can be prevented."

[Iron Dragoon]

"Broadly? Developing new magic and improving the Order's situation, as has every guildmaster of the Order since its founding. We're opening a new branch, actually, and needed space, which is why I've begun raising new land. If you're speaking of becoming a nation, that's rather self explanatory. We've enough people and resources, and we've functioned as an independent nation since our founding. Making it official is practically just paperwork at this point. Nothing we've done outside of those two things is out of our normal routine."

[Anastasia]

The words are taken and considered, "Is there anything else you wish to say or add?"

[Iron Dragoon]

"Communication usually requires input from both sides."

[Anastasia]

"Then this is ours: We don't care as long as you don't get in our way," she says, brusquely. "Don't threaten ours or interfere with us and you'll have no problems."

[Iron Dragoon]

"So this is pre-emptive instead of responsive? The way you presented it, we had already given offense. Though we've never gotten along, I didn't see any reason for us to be as openly hostile as you made it seem we were about to be. That is why I wanted us on the same page."
