Figment

Devon walked in silence.

"I'm glad you approve," Arkanel responded as he stopped to look upon the scenery.  They had walked for a couple miles in from the stone slab they had been summoned to in unending stream of high grass.

"The bend in the river is about a mile up ahead, there's a place to fjord as we find the road."  He pointed

O'karn could tell the nearest peaks were about 2 ½ miles away, rising sharply into the air and capped in snow.  He noticed they hadn't risen in elevation appreciably since they began their trek and couldn't make out any hills that normally led to mountains.

"Well then, let's us be off.  Enough of these green fields, there be more trustworthy ground ahead." O'karn thundered, heading forward along the route Arkanel had dictated.

Nirae felt the saber drive up into the wolf and released it.  She ducked as it snapped at her face, her left hand reaching back, grabbed her hawk.  She reached for her mace, finding the handle as a trailing animal impacted her chest, sending her flying back.

OOC:  I'll post to Rackham in a minute, letting him know what he sees.

The companions continued to walk.  The grass continued unabated as the mountains began to grow swiftly.  The ground became hilly as they began to hear the sound of a river flowing.  As they crested a nearby hill they saw the river, two small dirt roads cut in the grass ran along the banks, a bridge connecting the two side.

"Not far now."  He turned to them.

"There are a few small farms outside the valley and some travel.  If stopped allow me to do the speaking."

O'karn sniffs and nods.  "You will deal with your fellow humans."

Rackham ran forward, screaming.  His scythe raised and his chain spinning above his head.  Nirae neatly dispatched the first wolf, but one of the trailers downed her.  Two more flanked her, running up on either side while another lunged at her feet.  He was still just sixty yards away running at full sprint.

Nirae rolled with the impact, falling to the ground in a slightly tucked position that allowed her to bring her legs into play by gathering them up under the wolf that had hit her chest and propelling them out with all of her fairly conciderable strength to fling the wolf from her.

Flowing though the thrust to throw the wolf, she leveraged upwards with her arms and tumbled fowards back onto her feet.

As she came towards a standing position, her right hand, having ripped her mace free of her belt, lashed out into the face of the wolf before her, even as she slashed to the side with her hawk.

Arkanel nodded and led them down the hill.  Obtaining the path, he led them across the river, was only about 500 feet across, and towards the mountains.

Looking towards the mountains, they could tell there was a break in the range as the snow caps dissapeared.  They terrain away from the river also began to get rockier and rise.

They spied a man tilling a field once, a few others untended in the early afternoon, but no one else was travelling the road.  After another half-mile the stopped in front of a pass.  The mountain that faced the river rose almost straight up, appearing as if someone had simply removed a section and placed a river there.  The gap appeared to be about a quarter mile wide and extend forward as far as they could see.

The oddest part was the corners of the mountains facing them had two immense sculptures on them.  Flowing robes extended from the ground, up the side of the mountains into two arms, which extended to hands placed together.  A neck was also shown and two decidedly female faces looked skyward.

As Nirae fell, two sharp jaws clamped down on her chin, crushing her jaw.  As she landed, she successfully flung the wolf away from her.  A healthy portion of skin went with the animal.

Pain flared as teeth tore into her right forearm, left bicep, and calf.

Rakham hit the twenty yard mark.  One wolf was landing on its back a few feet in front of Nirae, while three had their teeth in his friend.

Daggedal raised an eyebrow.

As they were getting close to their destination, Miaka finally put on the white cloak Arkanel and Lafiel had given her, continuing to follow Arkanel.
<Steph> I might have made a terrible mistake

Lafiel looked chagrined.

"It was a simple question," she responded.  Placing the ring in a pocket of her skirt, she looked at Daggedal intently.

"What now?"

Arael finally broke her silence, the question nagging her relentlessly.

"Arkanel, are there any tales, say before that war a thousand years ago, about none chosen
using magic? I'm trying to understand the bigger picture here."
