Rackham aimed toward the nearest wolf holding onto Nirae's arms.
riss and I against the world!

Rackham and Nirae get no breaks...

Why, oh why wasn't I born rich?

As they walked, Devon examined the people they passed, observing their garb and the visible technology level.

Arkanel led the small group into the pass.  He spoke as they traveled in-between the river and the sheer face of the mountain.

"The old wars had many mages.  They were said to be of all races.  Myth has it, that all who possessed the ability were exterminated, except for a chosen few.  These were chosen because of the purity of their hearts and desires and became the founders of the order."

About halfway through the pass, a dozen riders rode up to them.  They were dressed in brown tunics and pants, and all carried what appeared to be a small spear in their hands.  They slowed to a stop and bowed in their saddles to Arkanel.

He nodded in return and led the party past them.  No words were spoken from the riders or Arkanel.

No others crossed their paths.

Finally they reached the end of the narrow pass, opening up to a valley.  In the distance, the party could make out the beginnings of a village.  It was still a good mile away.

Arkanel stopped and turned to them.  "That is the village up ahead.  There is still time to travel to Camelot before dark, so you might see with your own eyes what I ask of you.   Otherwise, I can lead you to my home, and we can talk a little more."

"We should head to the town first.  You said that the others were going to be heading there with your assistant." Devon turned and swept a glance across the valley towards the village. 'It will also give me a chance to see how advanced their technology is...'

O'karn grunted indifferently.

Well, Goodbye.

"Anything that leads to lunch sounds good!" Miaka chirped excitedly.

"I'm with her!" Arael readily agreed. "Plus there are several more things I think you can help clarify."

Arkanel nodded and started walking towards the town.

As they continued along the river, they passed the occasional bridge.  The mountains to the right receded, giving way to a small forest.  To the left, the mountains gave way to pasture land.  Farms popped up, and the adventurers could see pigs and cattle.

Devon noted that no machinery was seen and the few people they spied were dressed as peasants.

The road went straight, while the river turned to the east, meeting up with a large body of water.  The other side visible in the distance.  Looking out, they could see what appeared to be a small Island inside the lake.  A few docks jutted out from the village.

The reached the outskirts of the village.   Homes were scattered about and the dirt road turned into a brick one as they walked.  Smoke was coming out of some of chimneys of the mostly brick houses, each smaller and containing one or two stories.

The humanoid populace was made up of light skinned people.  The height of the adults ranged from four to six feet in height.  A look of happiness and contentment showed on their faces.

The path they followed curved, they passed one then two larger buildings marked as inns before entering a market area.  A few open areas sported iron workers, though the only weapons appeared to be spears and knives at only one shop, and food stalls.   There was a bookseller, a tailor, a clothier, a few merchants, a stables.  Another building that caught there attention appeared more like a warehouse, with a large stables attached to it.   The occasional dock would pass them along the left, and one was larger than the rest, a boat moored that looked big enough to hold a hundred people.

After the market the appearance of the village improved, the houses along the lake taking on larger proportions, and a more pleasant appearance of whitewashed wood.

The people they passed, merely smiled and nodded, no one stopped to speak with them, though some gazes did linger.

Finally they made it to the largest house.   The two stories were built in brick and wood, with an arched doorway that had three small steps leading up to it.  A small stable was seen to the left, though it was empty.  Akranel led them to the front door, reaching out, he opened it, revealing a small room which he entered.

"We're at my home.  Be welcome.  You may place any belongings you wish in this foyer.  The room was decently sized, a rack for holding coats lined both sides, a shelf hung above each rack.   There were a few cloaks already hanging up.

He opened the door on the other side, turning back to the O'karn, he said, "Watch your head."  The doorways were both seven feet high while the room was ten.

ooc:  if you have questions about anything you passed, feel free to ask.  I didn't want to continue a little section at a time, but wanted you to know what the area looked like.

"What kinds of sweets does your world have?" Miaka asked for research purposes.

Arkanel turned to the young lady.  "Types?"

"Let me see, there's chocolate, and sweat drops, and ice cream, and... I'm sure the children know better than I.  Or one of the stores would have a list.  I currently don't have in the house, sorry."

Miaka's face fell. "You don't even have  ice-cream or chocolate in your home?"

"Food to passify naughty kids...  No.  I apologize, though.  Lafiel stopped eating those things years ago and I never had the urge."  She smiled placatingly at the girl.

"That pretty girl stopped eating sweets?!" Miaka all but yelled. "Unforgivable! I must set her straight on the path to deliverance!" The red-head took three steps into the house, before stopping in her tracks and returning to Arkanel. Blushing, she asked him, "Umm, where exactly is Lafiel?

Miaka laughed, rubbing the back of her head in embarrassment. "Right. Her reeducation will have to wait, then."

Her face brightened considerably, as she thought of something. "Can we have lunch in the meanwhile?"

Miaka was trying not to salivate in anticipation. She really was.
