Biggest gaming letdown?

What game let you down the most?

Many games come in a flurry of expectations and hope. You're chargenning, you're ripping to go with a new idea and maybe a new gaming system. Almost every game I know starts on a high note or two, so which one didn't leave you happy and why?

I have two.

The Heist:

This was a very short game meant to be run by Brian. The chargen was decent and it had a good cast of PCs, but fell apart due to no real fault of the GM.  I was looking forward to a 'once into the breech and out' sorta deal.

The Tombs of Horror:

Didn't quite jive with how Drac ran it, eventually just kinda bailed. It was a cool idea to sic the Ranma cast against the Tomb. Oh well.

<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Bjorn

What can I say?  The Day After Tomorrow.

It was an awesome game, with an awesome start.  The problem is that it was too awesome, and we burnt out our GM trying to keep up with our enthusiasm.  The game ended by no one's fault, and an abortive attempt to pick it up again didn't work out either (though it did lead to the creation of the tDaT wiki, which just goes to show how obsessive we were).

"Letdown" is maybe the wrong word -- my only regret is that tDaT didn't get to go to completion.  It was a great game.

Brian

If there were five of me and I didn't make the math so unneccesarily complex, then TDaT would probably still be going right now. O_O
I handle other fanfic authors Nanoha-style.  Grit those teeth!  C&C incoming!

That's it. Someone get the cloning vats fired up, ASAP.
I am a terrible person.
Excellent Youkai.

TDAT - chapter 2, actually.  I wasn't able to play regularly and so I couldn't keep up and was barely present - I remember almost none of it (Unseen got killed, I think Bjorn and I ended up in New Delphi again?).  TDAT was the awesomesaucest game ever, so missing the resurrection attempt sucked.

EDIT:
. . . I was so not-in-the-game that I don't even remember exactly why it was called off.  ^^;;

The main thing I found from that, I think, was pacing.  As a player, get on top of that sort of thing as soon as you can - ask for a pause, watever.  But if you let yourself get far behind, you'll never catch up.

Well, there was a bit more to it than that.

From memory, I was quite busy with work at the time (and I admit, addicted to WoW as well!), so I couldn't really post regularly.  This meant that quite a lot of stuff happened without me, and when poked to post, I'd frequently have to go through anywhere from ten to forty posts before I knew where we were at - and it was only lunch breaks when I usually had that much time free at a block.

This got to me, and it was pretty demoralising, which pretty much made me start sulking.  Vicious circle.  I could have scrounged up the time, caught up, and put a lot more effort in but I didn't, because I was being a whiny little kid - and thusly I removed a PC from the game.

I'm not sure if that's how it works for other people, but when I can't be present for things, and my character does or doesn't do things that I particularly wanted to do . . . I dunno.  It feels like it's not my character anymore.

Once I get behind, 's almost impossible for me to make myself catch back up.

Dracos

*pats*

Hum... biggest?  Well, TDaT was quoted, but I won't say that.  Games end, someetimes suddenly, sometimes planned, but I had fun the whole way through it pretty much and that's definitely not a letdown.

High School heroics.

>_>

<_<

Yeah, I was kind of looking forward to playing a mage in a system where mage isn't lame micromanagement and whining about needing more scrolls, but the game just didn't come together.

And we effectively lost  to Tingle.

TINGLE.

Because we never played through to a victory -_-

Dracos
Well, Goodbye.

I'll add a new entry - Einschenloss and Avatars. I'm mainly annoyed at myself since I let another game muscle all my time, and I really did think the idea was viable/had some plans going. Bleh.
