You drift in stillness, feeling water and air flow within you. You are lost in the sensations, like a mostly forgotten dream until it all ends by Bubbles shaking you shoulder. "It's been over an hour," she says, "Are you well?"

"Yes... yes," Afina blinks, reasserting her typical hold over her elements. There wasn't any of the sense of harmony or completion she felt back on Smoke. "I think there's still something I'm missing, not quite there yet." Dismissing her control temperature spell she flutters into the air, "Lets try seeing if we can find any other leads?"

All of you ask around some more. There's no luck right away, but eventually you get another lead. Refuge has a great underground lake, only partly frozen and that serves as the town's water supply. You hear from various people that an old sage lives on one the ice islands that floats there, an ancient being that has studied Ice for as long as Refuge has existed.

"That sounds like a worthwhile lead to me," Afina says, seeing if they can get directions underground before venturing in that direction.

[Anastasia]

That's the easy part. There's several buildings that are just shells for paths into the ice. You go in one and go down it, stairs of carved, slippery ice. Bubbles goes gingerly, carefully - and Mirajane often reaches out at the right time, steadying her. "Careful," Mirajane murmurs, "These are meant for people used to walking on ice."

"My thanks," Bubbles murmurs.

Afina is quite glad she doesn't have to worry about that by just flying everywhere. It would do her graceful reputation no good at all to be seen slipping and sliding everywhere.

[Anastasia]

The bottom opens out to a lake, big enough that you can't see the ends of it from your position. The walls glow with an icy white light, enough to see by. A steady stream of people gather buckets of freezing cold water and head back up other sets of stairs, and guards are scattered all about.

[Ebiris]

"Seems you might have to get your furs wet after all that, Bubbles," Afina says apologetically as they reach the edge of the lake. "Unless you'd rather be carried by Mirajane?"

[Anastasia]

"Nonsense," A brief flare of magic later and she walks on the air, as if casually strolling. "You gave me this, did you forget?"

"I often forget about magic that's left superfluous from having wings," Afina admits unashamedly, continuing to keep pace with Bubbles and Mirajane as they start to fly or airwalk over the frigid waters. Though yes, now she thinks about it there is that, as well as the ability to turn into a free-floating cloud as options too.

[Anastasia]

"Isn't that something of a failing?" Mirajane asks quietly, "You're part air, you should be fully aware of Air's capabilities."

[Ebiris]

"You're right, I should," Afina agrees. "You never know when I might be denied the use of my wings."

[Anastasia]

Like this, all of you fly out over the lake. Amid the bitter cold, you see it's vastly large, no far shore in sight. But there's little islands dotted here and there, ice floes littering the surface of the lake. As you fly about...

Spot check, but the DC's easy enough that you won't fail it under any circumstances.

...you see one has a cave dug into it, leader deeper within. It's the first island you see with much of any sign of anything unusual.
