Great.

So before we go any further, here's the power text in its entirety:

    Reaching across the planes, you form a momentary link between yourself and the Positive Energy Plane. With the connection made, you instantly guide a massive charge of positive energy from your psyche into the material world, channeling it along a burning ectoplasmic line that extends from your outstretched hands. Anyone caught in the area takes 9d6 points of damage. Undead caught in the area take 2 additional points of damage per die. A construct or inanimate object takes only 5d6 points of damage from this power. This power is a positive energy effect.

    Augment
    For every additional power point you spend, the power deals an additional 1d6 points of damage (1d6+2 against undead), and the power's save DC increases by 1.

There was a bit of errata as well for this power, because the DC ramped up too fast:

Errata: ShowHide
DC increase has been changed to standard 2 pp per +1 instead of what is in CPH

Note that the errata does not change how the damage scales in any way. Only the save DC.

So we have a base damage of 9d6 in a 120 foot line. Augmenting it causes the power to deal an additional 1d6 equal to the power points spent. So if I spend 30 power points on Celestial Conduit, it deals (9+21)d6 damage to living creatures, where 9 is the cost of the power and 21 is the augmenting power points spent. Alternately, it deals (5+21)d6 damage to constructs and inanimate objects. If it strikes an undead creature, it takes an additional 2 damage per die. Mathematically, (9+21)d6+(9+21). While 30d6 isn't super impressive at our level, it gets better with metapsionics.

In this case, we're automatically applying Maximize Power and Twin Power. Additionally, we're applying Empower Power.

So we take our first set, (9+21)d6, and add a second layer. 1.5((9+21)d6). We already know that the power is Maximized, so that doesn't necessarily need to reflect in the basic math of the equation. We'll deal with it last. The addition of the new set multiplies the subset by 1.5. This reflects the Empower Power feat being applied.

For the final set, the entire thing is multiplied by 2, per the Twin Power feat. Our equation now looks like this: 2(1.5((9+21)d6)). We've left the d6 in there so that we still know what we're doing and what we're doing it with. Once we have this equation, solving it is a breeze. First, convert the d to an x. This gives us 2(1.5((9+21)x6)). From here, we use our handy PEMDAS to work out the answer. Parenthesis, Exponent, Multiplication & Division, Addition & Subtraction. That means we start with the inner-most parentheses and work our way out. Numbers flush against parentheses are multiplicative.

2(1.5((9+21)x6))
2(1.5((30)x6))
2(1.5(30x6))
2(1.5(180))
2(270)
540

My original formula is missing a set of parentheses, which may explain why you didn't understand it.

What if they're not stars at all? What if the night sky is full of titanic far-off lidless eyes, staring in all directions across eternity?

Iron Dragoon

If it does an additional 2 per die to undead and yo've got 9+21 dice, the the bonus damage is 18+42, not 9+21.
This is not the greatest post in the world, no... this is just a tribute.

Anastasia

It's not undead so that's not relevant right now, Iddy. He also 1ed the save so hilarity ahead.

Init is Simmer (34) > Surru (32) > Jaela = Tryll (31) > Calleigh (28) > Kraken (26) > Balyss (24)

Tryll's blast of power is much stronger, slamming hard into the kraken. The sheer blast of ectoplasmic power sends it hurtling back and away, reeling from the blow. It shakes all over, tentacles sizzling and body popping as...

Calleigh.

<Afina> Forever.

<Yuthirin> Afina, giant parasitic rainbow space whale.
<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Yuthirin

Calleigh takes Tryll's cue and yanks the book from her bag! She flips it open and yells, "Book! Do your stuff!"
What if they're not stars at all? What if the night sky is full of titanic far-off lidless eyes, staring in all directions across eternity?

Anastasia

The book does not open. It feels jammed shut. Hope can be found where things are the darkest.

Nephrite

'I've managed to trick the spell for right now -- we have thousands of undead creatures out here bearing down on the soldiers. I would suggest we have them pull back to Aurora for now.' Moore sends to everyone.

Yuthirin

'The book refuses to open, Moore.' Tryll replies.
What if they're not stars at all? What if the night sky is full of titanic far-off lidless eyes, staring in all directions across eternity?

Yuthirin

Calleigh keeps the book on-hand, just in case.

Nephrite

'It probably has to be opened out here. Don't worry about it for right now, if it's an emergency we'll have someone bring the book up into the darkness if Afina can't dispel it.' Moore replies.

Anastasia

Anything else or is that it, Calleigh?

Calleigh also makes herself small and hides behind Jaela. Just in case!

Anastasia

Simmer's up, sec while I do all the math.

<Rei-chan> Kotono rolled : 1d20+32 ref going to see if this matters first o fall, if he 1s for example... --> [ 1d20=11 ]{43}

He's fairly close here so I'll do the math. SImmer's dropping another tricked out lingering flames, which deals...

Empowered maximized enhanced searing lingering flames. Battle magic+3 for +3 per die of damage to the damage. 11th level spell.

> roll 25*6
<Rei-chan> Kotono rolled : 25*6 --> {150}

<Rei-chan> Kotono rolled : 150+75 --> {225}
> roll 225+75
<Rei-chan> Kotono rolled : 225+75 --> {300}

A baseline of 300 damage. 150 after the save, which...

Simmer gestures and snarls, water evaporating into steam around her. "Burn!" Flames engulf the kraken, a neverending storm of fire. It is burned before you, charred and ruined, going still after that. Victory! It begins to fall away, passages ahead in the watery tunnel.

Free act. Having Surru to dispel was key, along with heavy damage dealers. Good party for this one.

Calleigh leaps over Jaela's shoulder, pointing ahead, "Let's go!"
What if they're not stars at all? What if the night sky is full of titanic far-off lidless eyes, staring in all directions across eternity?

Anastasia

"Let's," Simmer agrees, "To the bottom of this."

Giving Surru and Jaela a chance to reply, since [spoilers].
