Nephrite

#945
"I've been sitting here thinking about that." Moore says. "I think I'm onto something... It's like slowly peeling away the wrapping around a nice chocolate. I just... keep losing the chocolate."

A sigh at that.

"Maybe..." He takes a breath in again. "Maybe if I walk through my thinking, you might see what I'm missing. Do you mind?"

Anastasia

"Go on," Xandra says, "Like an invisible treat you can't remember once you open it?"

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

"Exactly." Moore says.

"Okay, so... Benfal." Moore starts. "Benfal was a prime, and it was brought to Elysium. That's an indisputable fact. That can't be hidden away with any anathemic knowledge."

He looks up at the sky at that, then back at Xandra. "So, we know that's a fact. How did it get there? That's... what we don't know. What... I do know, is..."

A breath in. "A gate. A gate... something. I mean, I don't think it's a difficult leap of judgement to say a gate was opened, and that's how Benfal got to Elysium." He adds. "...A gate was opened, and that's how Benfal got to Elysium. ...I finally understand now why all of those books have such a sheer amount of repetition in them when this sort of subject comes up."

Anastasia

"Reinforcement. Repetition. Retention," Xandra lists off, "Three Rs, all important. To try and fight what erodes at knowledge itself."

"A gate was opened, and that's how Benfal got to Elysium." Moore repeats.

"There's a book in Aurora that I... don't remember reading, but I must've. It was called 'The Eternal Joy,' and has some anathemic knowledge in it. What's interesting is that the note on the book says that if you read it, you forget it within seven days... but if I read it, I seem to lose complete track of time and just... fall asleep, or get so absorbed in it that I collapse." Moore says. "So... there's something in that book, that connects all of this. Somehow, it paints a direct picture of whatever it is that I can't remember."

A furrow of his brow. "A gate was opened, and that's how Benfal got to Elysium. But... what could the book tell me? Maybe... what kind of gate it was?" He asks.

Anastasia

"Or why," Xandra replies, "Why is more important than what, many times."

"...I must know something else about whatever it is, that I just don't connect." Moore says. "So two individual pieces of information that together make up something much more."

A long sigh. "A gate was opened... ...wait a minute." He blinks. "Aldaboah. It's a Celestial word. Aldaboah. It's... a gate. A gate keeper. A celestial. gate. keeper."

He furrows his brow again.

"A gate was opened, and that's how Benfal got to Elysium." Moore repeats. "A gate was opened, by a Celestial gate keeper, to Elysium. That's how Benfal got to Elysium."

He takes in another breath.

"A Celestial gatekeeper opened a gate. A Celestial gate keeper... so... someone like Xerona, but... instead of this, for another gate." He clicks his tongue. "...I have a dreadful feeling I'm just going to forget all of this."

Anastasia

"A guardian," Xandra says, "A protector. A gate keeper. Someone who tends the gate. A heavenly gate," Xandra speaks slowly.

Nephrite

"A heavenly gate. A celestial gate." Moore says, quietly. "Amazing, beautiful, empyrean, exalted..."

He holds his hand up to say something, then blinks. "A guardian of... a gate. A gate that can take something to Elysium. What is Elysium most noted for...?" He looks down at the ground. "Elysium may as well be like Celestia, but... rather than anything specific, it's just focused on one particular aspect of being, isn't it?"

Anastasia

"It is the plane of good untouched by anything else," Xandra turns to you, "Do you think that means something?"

Nephrite

"I don't think it's a coincidence that the plane ended up in Elysium." Moore says. "I think... that's the key. ...key?"

He blinks again. "...The key, the guardian of the gate, who opened it... who opened a gate that brought the prime to Elysium."

He puffs his cheeks up for a moment. "But what kind of gate could've been opened to do that? I think... maybe that's part of what I can't remember."

Anastasia

"The root of it. The root of why you have to forget," Xandra suggests. "Merely knowing of a gate is one thing, but the details, the knowledge of it. That's what's hidden?"
<Afina> Imagine a tiny pixie boot stamping on a devil's face.

<IronDragoon> I mean, why not?

Nephrite

"I think that's it." Moore says with a nod. "There's... a name, too. I swear I remember... remembering it, before, but I think because I didn't think about it very often, I forgot. I think I remember... knowing the name of the gatekeeper?"

He nods once to himself, more than anything. "Yes, I think that's it... I think knowing the name of the gatekeeper clues you into what the gate is, so it makes sense that I can't remember it."

Anastasia

"Let's look at it form another direction - Benfal was taken to Elysium. Who did it?" Xandra asks, "And why?"

"The prime was going to be destroyed, I think, much like Lifasa was. Either destroyed or pulled down into Hell by Semyaza." Moore says. "I think... I always got the feeling that what was done was done as a last resort to save Benfal from being destroyed, or from falling."
