[Anastasia]

"And what in the name of Mech-sama is THAT?"

[Carthrat]

"Exactly what it sounds like, although "Dangerous" and "Weapon" are open to debate."

Carthrat shrugs.

"They tell me to quarantine stuff. I quarantine it. I sometimes get to keep it. In payment, they give me resources, money, and.."

He growls.

"..apartment blocks."

[Anastasia]

Shizue frowns slightly, her face turning gloomy.  

"This DWRC sounds like a bunch of techno raiders. What authority do they operate on?"

[Carthrat]

"The 17th Bill of the Emperor Tslukio, the Third Monarch of the Korslathian Spiral."

Carthrat says this with a perfectly straight face, as it's true.

[Anastasia]

"...Okay. Why don't you start by explaining that, Ratty dear."

[Carthrat]

Carthrat shrugs.

"Space travel. Intergalactic policy. Empires amongst the stars. Surely you've heard of it?"

Carthrat is well aware the last few words are very cruel.

[Anastasia]

She spends several moments silent, apparently weighing over what you said.

Shizue suddenly laughs.

"It does fit from what I've seen, Ratty. I mean, really. Your technology is so far advanced from even the highest normal pioneers...and the fact that I've seen blips of it around. Those med packs, the light gun...It's really fuckin' Star Trek out there?"

[Carthrat]

Carthrat shrugs.

"It's strange. The thing you have to realise is that because of certain cosmic laws relating to space/time, the entire galaxy is pretty much a mess. See, until the galaxy stabilized itself only a decade ago, you could send a message to someone across the galaxy, then travel there, and you'd arrive to see yourself talking to the other guy about the message. It was.. quite strange."

[Anastasia]

Shizue just nods despite the confusion on her face.

"Start talking, Ratty. I want to know about all this."

[Carthrat]

Carthrat blinked.

"Wha? Everything? That'll take years to explain."

[Anastasia]

"We have time. Start with the more salient points."

[Carthrat]

Carthrat shruged.

"Well, space travel is fairly complex. I mean, I know how to build an N-space engine, which basically gets you from A to B, and I know most of the stuff you'd need to know to pilot a ship, but the fact remains I've been living on Earth for the past five years, and not because of any budget problems or resource shortfalls."

Carthrat struggles with the next part.

"The reason for this is something called the Tallirian Probability Theory. I have no fucking clue why, but it is impossible to build a ship in this day and age. Cosmic physics made it possible earlier, but nowadays, the physical constraints you have to work with simply don't cut it.

A vessel that can fly in N-Space is really a 4-dimension object. It, well, made perfect sense when I read it.

Well, really, all you need to know is that you can't build a ship from scratch, so there are only a few ways to actually get one.

The first is to find one. This happens more often than you might think. If a person really, really, really wants to travel in space and dosn't have a ship.. well.."

Carthrat coughs.

"Ships have been known to appear in peoples backyards with little to no explanation. I know for a fact it only happens once per person, and that it is most definately not something to rely upon. But it happens."

[Anastasia]

"..."

"...."

"Higher science is starting to sound like magic..." she mutters to herself.

[Carthrat]

"Oh, no, this isn't higher science. This is just the founding basics," Carthrat says, missing the irony.

"Anyway, you can always try buying a ship, though I doubt all the real estate on Earth would manage you that.

Then there's they way I got mine. You simply remove it from it's original owner."

Carthrat shrugs.

"Space is overrated. You have to watch your back everywhere you go, it's all about the moneymaking, you get into consistant fights... well, yeah, it's pretty much exactly the same as here, except there are aliens and more lasers."

[Anastasia]

You get no further reply, Shizue chan seems to have fallen into a grinning reviere.
