"It's so peaceful here. Kind of hard to believe anyone would want to bring war to these people," she thought. Her eyes appraised the rather placid surrounding until she finally reached the outskirts of the town. The peace was soothing balm, draining her anger away and reminding her of the reason she was in this world in the first place.

When her eyes caught sight of the woman on the porch, that selfsame curiosity moved her feet almost on their own accord. Before she realized it she was already approaching the town house, a smile on her face and greeting on her lips. She took the time to study the woman as she approached. Her clothes most likely meant that she was important woman in this place. Perhaps she knew something worthwhile.

The short path up to the porch gave Arael time to appraise the woman.  She wore a simple red gown of silk and a ruby bracelet.  The single adornment on her hands was a ring, with gold and diamonds intertwined.  Her silver necklace ended in a ruby, and her shoes, slippers really, appeared well crafted.

"Hello, my dear," she said airily as Areal approached.  "What can I do for you?"

Miaka returned to Arkanel's house, and walked into the room she had last seen Arkanel in.

"Please excuse me for troubling you," Arael began, "but could you tell me where this path leads? I'm afraid I'm new in this area and... well..."

Lafiel walked into the dinning room, interrupting Arkanel and Jeremiah.

"I'm going to stay at the hunter's lodge," she said hautily.

Arkanel looked startled, and sighed.  "Fine..."

Sne nodded and walked into the kitchen.

Miaka walked in time to see Lafiel leave the room.  Leaving Jeremiah and Arkanel standing there.

The woman looked at Arael placatingly.  "The path out of town?  It leads through the wooded area and onto Camelot."

"Arkanel, would it be possible for Clara to show me to the changing room?" Miaka asked.

"Camelot," Arael replied in a much subdued voice. "Have you ever seen it? I mean, living so close to it and all, of course you must have seen it before." Arael's features suddenly took on an air of embarrassment.

"Not that I assume you did or anything. I mean, if you didn't want to see it that's fine too. Not to say that you didn't either!" She waved her hands spastically in front of her, emphasizing her embarrassment. She suddenly turned to face the river, shoulders slumping visibly.

"Um... I'm just curious to know what it's like there." Her voice took on a wistful tone as she stared in the direction of the bridge and, she assumed, Camelot.

Clara led Miaka out of the room, into a small area that had stairs leading up and another set leading down.  She moved too a small door, and opened it, removing a small lamp.  Lighting the wick, it gave of a soft glow.

Satisfied with her work, she led Miaka down the stairs.

Traveling down the stairs, Miaka found herself in a large spartan room.  The stairs were located in the middle of it, with fourteen beds, seven each along opposite walls.  There was a doorway on one of the other walls, and the last wall was bare.

The beds were each full-sized, two pillows, and white blankets.  A small chest stood at the foot of each, and a small nightstand.  And Remdos stood a short distance away.

Clara walked to the doorway, opened it, and walked in.  Inside was a small room, containing two large dressors, a mirror atop each.  Another door stood on the other side of it.

"There's a lavatory on the other side of the door.  If you need anything else let me know?"  She handed the lamp to Miaka and left.

The woman looked at her quizically then laughed,  "Heh.  Why would you want to see Camelot?  It's a relic of a long dead society.  I've seen the wall that marks it, but I haven't been."

Entering the small room Clara had shown her and closing the door behind her, Miaka quickly got out of the white robe. Her priestess outfit shortly followed suit, and Miaka dressed herself in her beige school uniform.

Fixing the bow in her shirt, Miaka packed away her other outfit, making sure to put it where her school outfit had been, instead of just dumping it on top of everything. Reaching into the side pockets of her backpack, she took out one ward from each, and put them together in the front pocket on her jacket.

Done, Miaka put the white robe back over her clothing, and grabbed her backpack, walking out of the room. Giving the guy in the larger room a short wave, Miaka returned to the dining room.

Miaka entered the dining room to the sight of Jeremiah and Arkanel still regarding each other.

Keeping that wistful gaze to the horizon Arael smiled ever so slightly.

"My mother is why. According to my father she made the pilgrimage there in her youth. It was before my time, when she first met father. I never really got to know her while she was... Anyway, I thought maybe I would take this journey as well. It seemed to bring her good luck." Arael's smile grew considerably.

"Good luck and a good man. I could sure use some of that. Mr. Arkanel doesn't seem to happy about my interest in going, however."

kpjam

"Heh.  Arkanel is Arkanel.  He thinks the place has been defiled since Zaphiel started poking around there and therefore should be avoided.  Where are you from, anyway?  And if you're looking for a good man, you can come in here, we could always use an extra hand."  She looked speculatively at Arael.

In there?" Arael asked curiously. "What's in there? And how would that help me find a good man? Do you mean you have sons?"
